People gathered at Brixton Oval for a rally, but eventually the crowd moved to blockade Brixton Road. Police then negotiated with the organisers a march through Brixton that followed a route that police imposed. The crowd eventually got back to Brixton Oval where a sound system was blasting out drum'n'bass until early evening. South London Stop The War Coaliton seemed happy about how the event unfolded, although other local people felt that to be able to make an impact and to truly try to stop this criminal attack on Irak, other tactics are needed, focussing on civil disobedience. A local resident told me what seems to sum up today's protest: "Let's be realistic, if we can't even keep a blockade and stop the traffic for longer, how are we going to stop this war".
