Alternative Media resources on War on Iraq

Some alternative media resources on the web, courtesy of Red Pepper and the electrohippies collective.
A wide range of alternative media resources is available on the internet. Here are some recommendations for the UK from Red Pepper and the electrohippies’ media resource, which also provides details on mainstream media.
Indymedia is the first port of call for independent reporting direct from the streets. This website is currently choc-a-bloc with the very latest anti war protests, events and news from the UK and beyond. There's a specific Anti-War section as well as the usual rolling news headlines. Also a Protests page, demo's page and protestors' weapons inspectors round-up.
Schnews, the alternative weekly news sheet put together in Brighton, has been running front pages on the war for a while now. Common sense commentaries from the Chomsky's of this world, as well as well placed NGO rep's who give the anti-globalisation take to the current debacle. Plus - first hand reports from direct actions which never make it into the pages of the qualities. The website has a direct action against the war page, local anti war groups section, events, email groups.
Undercurrents, based in Cherwell, Oxford, is the video journalist collective, which came to prominence during the M11 road protests. They train up activists and lend out video equipment for them to record demo's and green/political events or projects. They also produce underground videos of the bigger protests, like Seattle or Genoa. The website has a section on anti-war latest, including footage of direct actions; a piece on media workers against the war; and an interview with Roddy Mansfield, an Undercurrents producer who gives the inside story on getting the world exclusive interview with Saddam Hussein. Also an interview with the woman who disarmed a US war plane with a hammer at Shannon airport, Ireland.
New Internationalist, the co-operative based magazine in Oxford, with editorial staff in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and US. Reporting mainly on issues of world poverty and inequality, it has a special feature on No War, with reports on protests from around the world. Also there's a campaigns page including B2 or not B2 about the use of Stealth bombers at RAF Fairford, plus a handy section on all the wars the US has undertaken down the years.
Z.mag is a huge website of independent critical thinking on political, cultural, social, and economic life in the US. Updated many times daily, it gets over 250,000 hits a week. Look out for Iraq Watch, antiwar materials, debates, recent links, and more. Z magazine is available in print as well as online.
AlterNet.org is another US project, this time from the Independent Media Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting independent and alternative journalism. Check out articles in the War on Iraq section: The Wars After Iraq, EnviroHealth: The U.S. Military's War on the Earth.
Urban75, based in Brixton, is one of the busiest, non-profit community websites - easily one of the busiest sites of its kind, recording well over a million hits a week. Check out the Punch George Bush section and the Protest Picture file. There are forums specifically on the anti-war movement.
CounterPunch is the US bi-weekly muckraking newsletter-with- radical-attitude. Check out the Glossary of Warmongering with such pearls as: 'democracy: a useful dictatorship of the remaining banana republic'.

I think a DDoS is like spam, always bad.
There have been heated debates about this, if you want to read more then this post on Kuro5hin.org and the following debate is worth spending some time reading:
Netstrikes & Antiglobalization Protesters

Has there been a debate on any IMC lists about this? It's a shame the list server is down.

No offence to any well meaning websites pointed out here ..
but it must be pointed out that no news is better than another alternative mumbo jumbo.
Just following these links you get dragged into the usual 'protest for everything wrong out there' camp.
The usual suspects cross linked to each other and nothing worthy of *news* to break the current UK censorship.
There are innocents being killed off by blood thristy pigs out in Iraq and the usual Aussie, NZ, US, UK alternative media could do better by forging ties with foreign sources with respect.
This bullshit of western superiority has to stop.
A good example is
(if unsuccessful try again)
Even very partisan newssites like
has news to be read between the lines.
Also lots out there to read if one can read Arabic.
In light of the current censorship why the hell does not anyone run an article on the 'news vaccum'?
This is the type of thing the well meaning humans in the west could and should do regarding this war.

.....they've got a good links page too..... http://palestinechronicle.com/links.php
......Also http://enews.ajeeb.com/ may be worth checking out. Not so sure about the latter but the former certainly has some interesting material. Do I need to form the links like this? - Palestine Chronicle and AJeeb
Yes it would be nice to be able to read Arabic in these times!
We as individuals and all media sources naturally have their biases.....but its good to get as wide a take as possible. Anyone know anything more about these people?

IMC admin idiot(s)?

I can see that there is a lame comment against the neutrality of this website by another participant.
Now to censor this website as 'anti semitic' is disturbing as this is supposed to be an independent media resource.
Is it not?!
I CAN JUDGE FOR MYSELF (and hope others too) whether to trust the content and accusations in a website, such as [whatreallyhappened.com].
The website has references to the word Jew as much as Arab, Iraqi, American or whatever.
There are plenty of references to Israel as to be expected in these troubled times where the issue of Israel plays such a central role.
I find [whatreallyhappenned.com] to be well linked to the usual sources of common sense, conspiracy theories, hippocracy etc. and I find no apparent anti semitic theme.
Can you explain the basis of your decision?

I can understand why it was done -- whatreallyhappened.com does appear to be a crazy conspiracy theoy site, at least that was my first impression, for example things like this:
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/ICTS.html
This issue should probably be discussed on the UK IMC Features list, however the list server is down at the moment, again :-(

From the indymedia uk mission statement:
"Indymedia UK provides an interactive platform for reports from the struggles for a world based on freedom, cooperation, justice and solidarity, and against environmental degradation, neoliberal exploitation, racism and patriarchy."
"While the mainstream media conceal their manifold biases and alignments, we clearly state our position. Indymedia UK does not attempt to take an objective and impartial standpoint: Indymedia UK clearly states its subjectivity."
From the indymedia uk editorial guidelines:
"Occasionally we are forced to hide postings offending the open posting guidelines. Because of the 'real time' nature of the newswire, it is not possible to monitor its contents 24 hours a day."
Newswire postings which include links to pages that are against the NOPG:
After thorough discussion on the imc uk features list, it was decided that postings which include links to pages that are against the Newswire Open Posting Guidelines will be hidden.
Hiding link on posting "thanks for that":
I removed the link to "what really happened" because of
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/ICTS.html,
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/spyring.html,
http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/ICTS.html.
There are many more similar links on the site, together they make up a conspiracy theory. Since there are also links to respected newspapers and articles that to my knowledge are not discriminatory, I only removed the link, but didn't hide later articles discussing it. In that way, the imc uk editorial guidelines could be respected, and the issue can still be discussed on the site.
By the way - personal comment: the indymedia uk editorial admin team is probably as diverse as the entire imc uk readership. Definitions of racism, sexism, homophobia, antisemitism etc vary - and so they should. Imc is no political party with set-in-stone ideology. Thats why the discussion on "what really happened" is NOT hidden, and even the links can be obtained from there. I trust that the readers of "what really happened" will continue to find their way to that page.
However, the indymedia uk admin team does agree on some things: BNP press releases, for example, are always hidden. Those who want to read them can go to the BNP website. This is not censorship, since no imc in the world has the power to close another group's website.

re: transmitter's explanation

'jew'. It is all about 9/11 and possible Israeli invovlement with the unfortunate incidents of that day.
Come on! when the all the pig media are spreading so much misinformation this is not even conspiracy theory.
Remember the donkey Kissinger resigned in December from the 9/11 pig inquiry and we hear no more about it. Until such an inquiry is held (if the liars are to be ever believed) this type of stories are the only way to gather information for any researcher.
The other link you provide is dead.
Also one of the many things I learnt thanks to the original pointer to [whatreallyhappened.com] is the Reuters! article on how IANA (inlt. atomic... ) recently expressed shock at the 'cheap FAKE and ONLY document produced by the pigs as evidence of Iraqi purchase of Uranium'. The pigs even faked the president of Niger's signature!!
Please republish the link the [whatreallyhappenned.com] with an apology.
Please think a bit more about it...
What have they done wrong to be classed with BNP?
I just saw this throught the disputed website.
Remember the bullshit used few days ago when the media was used the most important weapon for OIL?
May the peace prevail upon the people of Iraq.
