Children's BBC | 13.02.2003 04:35

Most children in Britain don't want there to be a war with Iraq, according to a special survey CBBC Newsround has carried out.

Hundreds of kids were asked what they thought about military action, and of every 10 kids who were asked, eight said they didn't want a war.

Only one in 10 children wanted to see soldiers fighting in Iraq.

The survey also asked what worried you about war.

Half of you are scared of terrorist attacks here in Britain, and a third of you thought the fighting might spread to other countries.

But some of you weren't as bothered about the people living in Iraq - 7% of you said that Iraqi people dying was your top concern.

But do they understant the reasons?

It is all well for them to be against this war but do they understand the reasons why this war is so wrong? Unless they understand why this war is wrong and the real motives for this war then the survey is a bit pointless!

The one in ten kids who want to see a televised high-tech war, are addicted to violent computer war games. They are the minority who will sign up to fight WW111 - and they have no concept of reality.

reasons for war

yeah but 'harlequin', most adults don't know much, if anything about the war either, your average person might read the sun, which has plumbed new depths in blatant propaghanda lately, or just have a vague idea that Saddam's is a demon.....

for example how many people realise that the main proliferator of WMD is the US, which has armed pretty much every brutal regime u can think of Iraq, Turkey, S.Arabia, Isreal, Columbia etc...and set up and armed Bin Laden in the 1st place...
how many people know that the biggest producers of chemical/biological weapons is the US, who have also refused UN inspectors entry....
how many people know that the US/UK have blocked the lifting of the 'genocidal' (UN workers words)sanctions, despite all other SC members being prepared to ease them..

u'll rarely find any of this in mainstream discussion
