ITV News tonight

ITV News led on the story of an anti-war student protestor at the stage managed Blair meeting in Camden tonight.

The protestor even got a short interview in which he succinctly explained that a majority of the country didn't want this war. The piece also reported favourably of a growing anti-war feeling in this country and throughout the world, moving on to news that Russia and China have joined Germany and France in expressing grave doubts over the current march to war. OK, I know these countries have their own interests and agendas, but coupled with the news that polls in the US are showing a rapid waning in desire for a war, I think that we're seeing a sea-change in the way the media are reporting things at the moment, and we can certainly use this for the good. Even Kenneth Clarke came out against the war on Question Time.

I think we need to discuss credible alternatives to remove Saddam Hussein from power and hand over the country to a true democracy. It's the last thing the capitalists would want, but with a surge of anti-war opinion and a realistic alternative that could be made to work - well who knows what might be possible?

Only big danger I can see now is if a big terrorist attack should happen (staged or otherwise). Otherwise I really think that this war can be forced to be averted.

Mysterious abscence

Did anyone notice that ITV evening news never mentioned France and China's objection to war, even tho it was the lead story on the other sides?

depressing

What I find really disturbing is the ease with which the story from russia's interfax news was buried (you know, the one where it was revealed that the decision to attack Iraq had already been taken. That one.) You'd think that a story which plainly exposed the lies and doublespeak of our leaders would have recieved more coverage (i saw it briefly on teletext and on indymedia). Then again, maybe not.

We need to turn alternative media into mass media. Any wealthy revolutionaries out there?

Jonathan Munro- Remember Goebbels fate!

26.01.2003 00:50

Every time ITN pumps out another of the
British government's lunatic war pieces,
we should all take the time to email
Jonathan Munro, ITN's "Head of Newsgathering"..
Munro's email address is

I make a point of reminding Mr Munro
of the fate that befell Joseph Goebbels,
the Nazi propagandist - a man who Mr
Munro seemingly models himself upon.

(Staring defeat in the face, Goebbels
slaughtered his wife and six children
before turning the pistol on himself.)
