Attention Saudi Arabia: a propaganda operation

Insider | 06.08.2002 22:11

The recent stories about war plans which might include the invasion of Saudi Arabia and its partition (with the seizure of the oil rich east of the country) are deliberate leaks: intended to frighted the Saudi elite into collaboration with the war

The United States desperately needs the toleration, if not the support of Saudi Arabia for its war with Iraq. So far the Saudis have refused to support it.

The war plans "leaked" today (then hotly denied by the Pentagon-- my these guys think they are clever with their double bluff!) are part of a strategy to manipulate the Saudi royal family to allow if not assist the war. You will see many versions of this story planted; eg. former Ministry of Defence appartchik in Britain, published an interview in the New Statesman in which he planted the story about a possible partition of Saudi Arabia with its oil rich eastern province being separated to be run as a colony or by some helpful clients.

This is all smoke and mirrors: it is aimed at manipulating Saudi Arabia to fall in with the war programme (by implying that if they don't then they will become its prey). Let us hope that the Saudis do not fall for this trick.

Saudi Arabia is a terrorist state

You ignore the fact that Saudi Arabia is the biggest supporter of international terrorism in the world. How do you propose the US counteract the extremists that Saudi Arabia produces, just let them be? The US has to show Saudi Arabia that it will not stand for its hypocrisy, in being a US 'ally' and funding terrorist groups and maddrassas (Islamic extremist schools) throughout the Muslim world at the same time.
Also, I support an attack on Iraq, because once Saddam falls, and a more stable regime was installed in Iraq, it would lead to more demands for reform throughout the authoritarian and undemocratic Arab world, as well as less American dependence on Saudi Arabian oil, which would also allow the US to put greater pressure on Saudi Arabia to stop supporting international terrorism.
Don't support Saudi Arabia, which is one of the worst human rights offenders in the WORLD!

What complete rubbish

The comment made above about Saudi Arabia being the largest supporter of international terror is utter rubbish. The US govt considers the Saudis to be some of their biggest allies in the world and a faithful supporter in their ``war on terror'' flwed as that might be.

The US have an excellent relationship and do billions in business each year.Saudi Arabia has an excellent record of upholding it's citizens social and economic rights - it has for instance one of the world's best health care systems - it's poor human rights record notwithstanding.I find all this anti-Saudi propaganda remarkable both for it's virulemnce as well as for it's innacuracy. The West should know who it's friends really are.
