We're all excited about QEII's visit to Victoria in the fall. The womyn in the picture were concerned their kids might not survive to see the great day, so they occupied a local pol's office. Ten womyn, half of them handicapped, but losing their dole benfits anyway. A picture tells a thousand words...and since it was taken, our Brutish Columbia gov't has said it will cut health funds for cancer victims. Wanna see the worst of the neo-lib, pays us a visit.

also, speaking of police. i attended a rally in Chilliwack protesting the closure of the Human Rights Commission( in violation of Canada's commitment to a UN treaty and a black eye for Canada's well-known role as a leader in the field of human rights), dismantling of the judiciary and the statement of the Attorney-General for the prosecution to show tolerance in cases of spousal abuse. there were police and sheriffs at this rally from our Interior--and we were only 30 women and children in number! we request assistance from other countries to speak against reduction in services, privatisation and dismantling of democracy. it doesn't feel like Canada, anymore.

British Columbia(and the rest of Canada) has just joined a rapidly growing world-wide "club" of countries being S.A.P.ped-hit with U.S. inspired economic "Structural Adjustment Programmes"(S.A.P.s) that are as patently misogynist as they are racist. Here is an exerpt from a description of S.A.P.s from one of your websites(linked below) concerning the Bretton Woods Institutions(IMF/World Bank-named after some U.S. town where they were founded, now you know what I mean by "U.S. inspired"):

"Women are bearing a disproportionate share of the burdens imposed by SAPs. The macro-economic thinking on which SAPs are based, takes little account of the gender-based division of labour. For example, SAPs promote export-oriented crops, which tend to be grown by men, which (l)eaves women with little support, marginal land, and fewer resources to grow food crops to feed their families. What the people in British Columbia, Canada, and the whole rest of the world need to do is teach these misogynist/racist Yanks a lesson- STICK IT TO THEIR BLOATED WALLETS! BOYCOTT THEIR MULTI-NATIONAL CORPORATIONS! And stick it to their lackys in your government-keep protesting-threaten to withhold taxes if they keep cutting services, that sort of thing!
