Clissold Park - council reverse decision

Clissold Park User Group | 13.01.2002 13:09

All the Hackney parks are in a perilous state as a result of the continuous lack of funding and latest round of cuts by Hackney Council.

We hope the proposed Hackney Parks Forum should be a way forward. Only by standing together, united, can we begin to win back the cuts from our urban green spaces.

The Clissold Park User Group is delighted to hear that the decision to close the animal enclosure and paddling pool is not to go ahead.
Many thanks all those who have supported the campaign to oppose the closures.

However, our cafe still remains closed, until arrangements to re-open it with a proper franchise arrangement are carried out. The park without the cafe feels very unwelcoming at present, particularly in cold or overcast
weather, and especially for the very young and elderly.

The next meeting of the Clissold Park User Group will be at 11am, on Saturday, 26 January in Clissold Mansion.

London Fields User Group are currently campaigning to re-open there paddling pool which has been closed, in spite of rebuilding it in 2000.

They also have an Olympic size Lido that has been closed for 12 years. For more info on the Hackney Parks Forum, or the cuts to London Fields email:  london-.fields@virgin.net

Abney Park Cemetery had 10% its funding cut this year and they STILL have not heard what level of funding they will receive in the forthcoming tax year (I feel another campaign coming on) There is a meeting on the 16th Jan at 7pm to discuss London Biodiversity Stratergy.

A Volunteer day on the 20th Jan 2-4pm
And Tree planting Day on 27th Jan 10am-4pm
Meet at the Visitor Centre
