Neo-Nazi rally flops

Anti-fascist | 12.01.2002 15:41

Today's rally organised by the neo-Nazi National Front in Bromley has badly flopped - only about twenty boneheads turned up and there was zero local support. However, there was a strong turnout from both the Anti-Nazi League and some autonomists too!

At noon today, the Anti-Nazi League was in position outside Bromley South BR station in order to "welcome" the National Front march. Shamefully, the NF had been allowed to organise a "rally against sex offenders", which was of course a blatant pretext to bring their vile racist and homophobic views out onto the street and into the public domain.

At one o'clock, the fascists duly turned up, having caught the train from Victoria. They had some Union Flags and posters of Sarah Payne (the little girl who was killed by a paedophile in Kent). . . head boy Terry Blackham was there, with about two dozen friends . . . altogether a very poor show, given that the rally has been organised for weeks. There is an argument for having neo-Nazi rallies and marches banned altogether, but judging by today's performance, the cops were right to let this one go ahead, since it is very embarrassing for Mr Blackham & co to admit they only have about 20 supporters in a country of some sixty million!

Half an hour later, the fascists marched back under heavy police guard. They slunk into the railway station and were immediately entrained back to central London. Hopefully some of them will stick to football violence from now on!
