BBC latest project: who can WE vote for ?

Auguste | 29.11.2001 17:13

The BBC has begun to cast around for nominations for whom they call "Breat Britons". I didnt take any notice until I saw thay were giving rather heavy handed "hints" for the "preferred bidders".

So heavy it could hardly be called subliminal. Essentially, establishment figures apply for the pst, Monty Python style, but they are the type only fit to cover banknotes : Scott of the Antarctic, Imperialist Queen Victoria, Issac Newton. Set incongrouously to the stains of a Great German Composer...
Question is, who could WE nominate ? Most activists who might appeal are either not sufficiently household names, or are simply not British (not enitirley clear how defined, that)! Winstanley, Ludd, Glyndwr, Tyler, a bit obscure, and other possible nominees are a bit to close to establishemnt histiriography, such as the Pankhursts. Frankly, Id rather nominate Mary Millington ! In fact I might...
But I think we need a tactical vote; we need someone who appears to be 'establishment' but who held quite radical views. I nominate John Milton, poet of the Republic, and perhaps only second to Shakespeare (himself a formidable political critic)

VOTE FOR JOHN MILTON !

Unless you can think of a better choice. probably can.
