A Forgotten Demo ? Stop the City 1984.

I dont know if IMC want to put this on their 'debate' section, but the 1984 Stop the City action needs to get some archives catalogued before it's forgotten completely

Stop the City has been understandably overshadowed by the coal miners strike which broke out the same year. It should be mentioned that many miners actually particpated in it, that it made use of the latest hi- tech (new fangled CB radios and first generation mobiles !) and that the movements of real people and coppers alike followed similar patterns: moving from the City to the west end, with, as I recall, similar results. Many of these protesters subsequently went on to join the miners in their own struggle.
As the BBC seems to be compiling faulty archives on other protests, I wonder if IMC might want to help set up a truer record of this one ?

Thanks for the posting. I can't immediately see where to put this posting. But I will ask the others if they have any ideas. Probably as you said if at all then for the Debate column. If no one else from IMC UK objects I will take it off later on today following our Editorial Guidelines. Please understand this site can't be everything.
Maybe you can yourself repost it to the Debate area?

Thank you again

I should add that I meant to say Stop the City 1984 was similar to J18, 1999, so there might be valuable tactical lessons there ripe for discussion. Even the little details were much the same, like that nutty preacher with the bowler hat ! It was my first 'big' demo, and Im kicking myself for not taking some snaps. Up to then I'd been on smaller actions, of various shades of Green, Red, and Black, but like Seattle for you younger guys, this was the one that convinced me, together with the miners, naturally.

All of these were the last days of Freedom to demonstrate against the Capitalist Tyranny that has now come to fruition and is on its own course of self-destruction.
It was the idea of a group that spread to the Individual that lead them to the place where they could be a Force and indeed a Big Fukin Surprise for the Boys in Blue.
The Bank The Stock Exchange not many Survived the paint the smoke, Mercs and Rolls Royce's on their Roof burning in the morning Sun.
We took the City Mile Square; Demonstrated outside Parliament chased the Boys in Blue down the Mall.
I was there, those were the days of Conviction and Action.
