Today in seven UK cities including Nottingham and Leicester, the Congolese community and their supporters held demonstrations to focus attention on government plans to categorise the 'Democratic' Republic of Congo as a 'safe' country to return people who have been fleeing the violence to the UK in search of security. In Nottingham people rallied and marched, highlighting that the Congolese who have already been deported face a very uncertain fate.

The University of Nottingham's Amnesty International Society's held a protest against the continuing human rights abuses at Guantanamo Bay. It is now over five years since the first detainees were transferred to the detention camp and despite widespread international condemnation, hundreds of people from more than 30 nationalities remain there: without charge and with little hope of obtaining a fair trial.

Nottingham Faslane 365 is a loose association of individuals committed to a peaceful blockade of Faslane Trident Nuclear Missile Base near Glasgow, on 31st March and 1st April 2007, as part of a co-ordinated year-long series of actions.

The Nottingham Faslane 365 group is starting to get busy as our blockade date gets closer. The organising group is now meeting weekly as we move our focus from awareness raising & fundraising, to planning the practicalities of our blockade.
