After a succesful screening of the film 'Still we Ride' at the Broadway last night, there is talk that the Critical Mass this Friday (30th) will get a big turnout of Notts bikers taking over the streets.

People will gather at the Savoy Cinema on Derby Road at 5.30pm.

Afterwards there will be drinks and short films at the Sumac Centre, 245 Gladstone Street, Forest Fields.

JUST A REMINDER - there is a screening of Still We Ride at Broadway Cinema in Nottingham at 6PM on Wednesday. SWR is a 37 minute doc about the ongoing (still after 1 yr!) police crackdown on bicycling and free speech in New York City. Two of the directors from the US will be on hand to answer questions and chat.

The next meeting of Nottinghamshire Indymedia will be on Monday the 8th October at 7pm at the Sumac Centre.

At the meeting plans will be discussed to hold a big open day/ evening late October with workshops, meetings, film showings, food and a benefit party. If anyone is interested in helping out, please come along !

After8 is a music weekender showcasing the best in Live Rock and Live Hip Hop that Derby has to offer. Organised by Derby residents who undertook a sponsored cycle to the G8 summit After8 hopes to raise over £5000 for Greenpeace and Oxfam as well as awareness regarding the G8s role in creating poverty and climate change.

Saturday 8th October sees a host of Derbys finest rock bands taking to the stage for an evening of diverse music whilst the Sunday 9th October provides a day packed full of Hip Hop talent, including DJs, MCs, Beatboxing, Freestyling, Breaking and Graffitti art.

An After 8 compilation CD featuring all bands involved shall be available throughout the weekend.

On Monday night at the Crocus Cafe in Lenton ( http://www.thecrocus.co.uk - for directions) there will be a meeting to discuss a new project to build a sustainable-energy-powered hospital in Togo. Josie Kaye, an ex-student of Nottingham University recently returned from Togo, will be giving a presentation on the current status of the project.

The plans are in the early stages at the moment, but the rough idea is to build a link between Nottingham and the community of Nyitoe-Zukpé where the project will be based. The two communities will then work together to fundraise, design and build the hospital.

A one day workshop on How to Facilltate Consensus Desisionmaking

Friday 14th october 2005 10.30-5.30 pm at the sumac centre ,Nottingham (the day before the Autumn Gathering) Facilitated by Kathryn and matthew of seeds for change.

This workshop is for you if you want to build up yuor confidence and skills to facilitate dynamic and productive meetings in you co-ops, local action groups or at radical routes.

Building maintenance, yard tidying, gardening, general pottering about etc etc. Ralph'll be here to make sure there's a constant supply of tea for all those offering maintenance-type help.

Meet up at Sumac at 10:00am, or just join in during the afternoon. Wear old clothes and bring gloves....

'Outspeak' is a collaborative project between video installation artist Ian Nesbitt and members of Nottingham's homeless community. The artist has worked with participants to create snapshots of their lives over a three month period, which will be displayed alongside the artist's own response to the experience.

Public Meeting in Sneinton at the Sneinton Hermitage Community Centre. Nottingham's Eastcroft municipal incinerator is proposing to expand its facility, please support our campaign to prevent the expansion of this unnecessary, highly polluting, poorly regulated plant.

The M1 carries huge volumes of traffic (some sections up to 160,000 vehicles per day). There is congestion at peak times. The widening is proposed to "reduce congestion and improve both safety and journey time reliability". But the plans are already flawed. When the proposals for the widening were originally agreed, it was noted that the only way to lock in the benefits would be to employ road-use charging. This has not been mentioned in the current documentation. In addition, independent research has shown that you can't build your way out of congestion, road widening and new roads simply encourage more traffic. The government's own studies confirm this. With traffic already predicted to increase by 50% by 2011, there is an urgent need for more long-term sustainable solutions rather than a road building programme that will further accelerate this increase.
