Today marks the ten year anniversary of the day over a million people marched against attacking Iraq. The papers are full of ‘Iraq: Was it Worth It?’ articles. To those of us implacably opposed to this attack, such a question is as ludicrous as asking ‘The Holocaust: Was it Worth it?’ The bogus War on Terror and the neoliberal principle of intervention for profit under the guise of extending democracy has made the world a more dangerous place. Pursuing this ideology in the face of mass opposition has made the world a less democratic place.

On May 4th Smash EDO are holding a mas s street party against war, greed and militarism. Here's a handy map of war profiteers in Brighton and Hove.
MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU
Over the years Mayday has been a time to celebrate ordinary people's struggle against global capitalism. The growing anti-militarist movement is a part of that struggle. On May 4th people from across the UK and beyond will come to Brighton in a show of force against EDO MBM/ITT, who profit from the suffering of ordinary people in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.
EDO MBM/ITT do not operate in a vacuum. The weapons they manufacture couldn't be produced without the support of other corporations; investors, business partners and companies providing services to them. This map plots the network of companies complicit in ITT's crimes in Brighton.

Shell is sponsoring the National Theatre's new production of 'Oedipus',and, unsurprisingly, Art Not Oil is preparing a response on variousfronts. We're asking people if they're up for making an artwork of some kind as a response. This could be an image, song, film or poem to appear on our website, or to be printed on a postcard or something similar. We're open to ideas. (Unfortunately, we aren't able to pay for your work, but we have no wish to possess it!)
If this is of interest, we'd love to see it as soon as possible, as 'Oedipus' runs until January 2009 only.

2000 days of occupation and the oil lobby and neo-conservative right still haven't got what they came for. Iraq's oil is still unprivatised but for how long? With just over 100 days to go until the end of Bush and Cheney's term in office, the crude pair are redoubling their efforts to secure the black stuff for US oil majors. Monday October 13th sees 41 international oil companies meet the Iraqi oil minister in London, to discuss the oil carve up they have waited so long for and which has been such a key factor in the deaths of over a million Iraqis. Lets get out on the streets on Saturday October 11th and remind them an Iraqi and a global movement demands the end to the occupation and their oil grab plans. End the occupation Now, Hands Off Iraqi Oil...
