Knitters Do It In Public

Knitting has grown hugely in popularity in the past few years. There is a thriving online community of knitters and an ever-growing number of knitting circles cropping around the country. World Wide Knit in Public Day is a celebration of this. It’s the largest knitting event in the world, with over 200 groups meeting last year in countries all over the globe.

World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. “Knitting is such a solitary act”, she says. “It’s easy to knit alone somewhere and sink into your work without thinking about all the other knitters out there. WWKiP Day is really about showing the general public that knitting can be
a community activity in a very distinct way.”

Knitters in Manchester are invited to take their knitting along to Exchange Square at 1 o’clock on Saturday 14th June. New and experienced knitters alike are welcome to attend.
