From each bit of the spectrum - - - - traditional patriot or internationalist, pro-state or pro-liberty positions, to use the old caricatures, the "global economy" is judged as having serious flaws.
Worse, when the sort of flaws we have are so serious they threaten our kids future, our own futures, in fact, reward the sort of "high risk", in fact, criminal ventures (if people kid themselves or others that they dont get caught) so much that the crimes, scams or straight "rip-offs" are - in current "economic" terms, good practise.
At the same time societies technological progress means that, simultaneous with the "house of cards" effects of the consequences of mistakes amidst this acceleration, the newest, almost untested technology falls into the laps of the least responsible, or criminal groups - those having the deepest pockets or "slush funds" - or those that might influence their opinions.
( The fact that Warbux proceeds are somewhat large, in comparison to "peace bucks" is shown by the amount that seems possible to hide in "miscellaneous" from recent arms deal news . . . . the fact that laws exist in the USA to allow this sort of corporation to gamble on the stock market then have losses covered by the taxpayer, or that fraud enquiries might get stymied by "national interests" shows a couple of the odd distortions that have crept into the worlds "economic rules" over the years. )
Yet, people inside these industries see this too - in the same way that responsible people in the oil industry, say, have seen the need to try to put some sort of spatchcock solution, at least, to the far-from-magic-marketplace - when, despite the old economic phrase saying "the future is a free good" - when the future is this near, but you have to exist in the poison turbulence as much as others do, is when the dogma stops.
( the fact that the early ramshackle attempts at solutions have somewhat fallen prey to the same "Messrs Percentage, Rake-off, Skim et al" that plagues the industry itself, with the somewhat dubious "carbon market" idea, shouldnt distract from the fact that people are trying. Blind spots that have got built up with such care for quite such lengthy periods dont disappear overnight )
That the problems are in need of a "patch" is understatement.
That a revamp of the wheeltrim is inadequate when the wheels aint round shouldnt need saying. But when the axle isnt straight either, but the "bumpy ride" has a language to describe each crunch - sorry - "correction" - the fact that the "train tracks" go over the precipice, (it isnt "around the corner" these days, we all see it - but we are all accelerating ) - but some idiot is shouting about the "opportunities" for "opinion influencers" or whoever in the "current state of the cycle" in the style of a character from a weird moderntimes cyber version of CATCH 22 . . . .
. . . . means its time for the "but, but, but, but" s to STOP.
Opinion influencing has a lot of odd twists these days. The "logic" of the situation is that the "highest risk" or most criminal - in fact, often the most criminally stupid scams - "pay" most.
Research, reporting etc gets rushed, submerged in "entertainment" - or - distorted in ways less easy to see - but easy to predict, due to the acceleratingly stupid "logic" of the situation.
If we ARE to all get out of this mess, we need to have a "news" that asks these questions - then allows solutions that include everybody with the seriousness that we approached the worlds threats in 1939 . . . . A 20-year approach to the situation is as stupid these days as it might have seemed then for the Brits, but if we get it wrong or underreact, the consequences are, in actual fact, much, much worse, much, much faster.
If we dont have the news, or the facts, how do we have a discussion that includes all. But the G8 that was 7/7, last time, seems a combination of the is it - isnt it ( USA SEES SENSE RE CLIMATE TURBULENCE? ) with the " does
my "SDI" cover for global xyberslavery look big in this "revamp the cold war" spin, the usual "peaceful demo goes sour" smears, plus a "dont mention the fact that all the world, WITH most of Americas people - ( rep or dem ) - are against the war . . . .
but we aint to talk about the crimes, we aint to talk about the stupid economy, we aint to talk about solutions.
New "news", please.
see the NUJ (National Union of Journalists) website for "what went wrong"(WHY) reports next week - comments, here - see under this piece - good for other directions to both "radical" or "reformist" info about quite how bad the actual reporting was of the DEBATE that SHOULD have happened. (seperate from the skew, smears, etc of the actions - but if you have received this as email forward, do check out the - very good - action reports at uk indymedia.)
the photos of columns of people as they wind over meadows of red poppies, despite water cannon - THAT is what it is to Remember, but mean it, to people that have seen such a lot of columns of walking wounded or worse in the past - or had to look at the RESULTS of such a lot "columnists" slack, stupid excuses for "journalism".
cheers
