Hate Crime Unit and Equality?
04.06.2007 10:54
Another incident that went unacted on, was a homophobic attack which was reported to the Police but the Hate Crime Unit failed to act on it, because the woman who carried out the attack was a "muslim" and the attack happened against another ethnic minority whilst on City Council premises.
It is also claimed that a member of staff was also attacked for being gay by a Social Services' "service user" and a full complaint went in. The worker was told that he/she would have to return to the service users home, irrespective of the incident otherwise they would face disciplinary charges.
Other incidents relating to "racism" are being noted by Trade Unionists for people who work for Manchester City Council, whose "equality policies" appear to be failing miserably because several well documented incidents have taken place in particular against those who work for Manchester Social Services.
The Manchester Evening News has reported in the past that Manchester Social Services has the higest rate of disciplinary and dismissal rates for Black and Ethnic Minority groups within the council.
An incident occurred in 2006, where a black member of staff was suspended because of a complaint that went in against a white member of staff, with full disciplinary action being carried out against her, although nothing occurred against the white member of staff.
There have also been reports that Asian members of staff have been subjected to comments relating to "terrorism" and "islamic repression", with degrading comments being made about items of clothing, innapropriate comments about the situation in the Middle East, Palestine, Afghanistan and some members of staff have also been subjected to quite severe Anti Jewish-Semitism.
Also being noted down are incidences of bullying against disabled members of staff, with allegations being made that premises are inadequate for those with photosensitivity, reports of harrassment against those with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, with allegations b eing raised in relation to "aids and adaptations" being taken away from them and then disciplinary actions being carried out.
