About 300 people are meeting in a large sports hall and a school in the suburb of Gross Klein. Their objectives are to organise demonstrations, blockades, and an international camp for 15,000 people against the imperialist summit which is planned for 6-8 June next year.
Themes of the mobilisation include opposition to militarism and war, racism and immigration controls, GM technology, and climate change.
The Blockade the G8 campaign have an ambitious plan to cut off the summit venue in Heiligendamm with mass road blocks before the summit begins and for its whole three day duration.
Here at the conference there is currently a crucial debate going on as to whether the planned Counter-Summit should go on in parallel to the blockades. This would force people to choose whether to take action against the summit, or to join in the discussion of anti-capitalist strategy, and alternatives to capitalist globalisation. Most people, of course, want to do both!
There will be a meeting on Wednesday back home to discuss what Manchester people want to do about the 2007 G8. Details:
7.30pm, Weds 15th November, Arch Bar (aka Zar Bar), Stretford Rd.
