A truck load of old pallets were piled 12ft high, and instead of the Guy, Tony Blair made the honours on top of bonfire. Many of the residents around the Community Centre, showed their support by bringing firewood and firework, and local business gave away freebies! The turnout far exceeded anyone's expectations. There were ci. 150 present throughout, and perhaps 200 at its peak. Among the spectators were not only local residents with their families, but also many students, and people from other parts of Preston.
The whole event was made special by the presence of, Ahi Karanga, among them where fire dancers, fire breathers, jugglers, belly dancers, drummers and didgeridoo players. Everyone enjoyed the performance, and some even had a go at the poi, or the diabolos.
As the fire kept on burning through the night, and people dancing to the sound djambes and didgeridoos, some of the spectators went inside to watch "V for Vendetta". The event was a success in every way specially, as there were no incidents or injuries.
