ID Card Plans Dropped... For Now!

Winston Smith | 05.04.2005 21:57 | Repression | Social Struggles | Technology | Liverpool

The ID Card Bill was dropped by Government when they announced the forthcoming election. However, the Home Secretay said that if Labour won the election they would re-introduce the legislation.

Tens of millions of pounds have been spent on preparing for the introduction of this legislation. Lots of companies are lobbying for the ID scheme and the massive profits that will accompany it. The Government claims that polls carried out by MPs in their constituencies show 80-90% public support for the ID scheme.

If the Labour Party win the general election we know we will see the reintroduction of this legislation and if the Conservative Party win they are certain to pursue a similiar policy.

You can stick your ID card up your *&^%

I shouldn’t worry too much about claims that polls carried out by MPs in their constituencies show 80-90% public support for the ID scheme for three reasons.

Have you or anybody you know been polled?

MP’s surround themselves with sycophants and apologists for the labour party, and, it very much depends on the question you ask i.e. Do you support a system that will stop FOREIGN terrorists and scroungers from destroying this green and pleasant land, you know, like it says in the press?

Or, do you support a system that will cost 6 billion nationally 40 quid personally and with no benefit, but will add other tiers of legislation and red tape?

I think if the labour party thought that they could win the arguement then they would push the legislation through. No, what they need is a terrorist attack on the mainland or some other catalist that they can use.

A neighbour wrote to our MP outlining all the concerns about ID, he responded saying that he did not agree with some of the issues raised, my neighbour contacted him to arrange to meet to discuss the same, he was unavailable for at least a month so neighbour and I went to his constituency meeting where he said we should make an appointment. Round and round we go!

What will you / can will do to keep up the pressure?

would it not be good to do something on the run up to G8 - you know the place where all the locals have been issued with ID cards, haven't they?

Vote Labour, vote ID card

Charles Clarke says ID cards are top of his agenda after the election. You did vote for Tony before, didn't you, and you got war in Iraq and ID cards.

Vote Conservative, Vote ID cards

ID cards will be top of Michael Howard's agenda after the election. You will vote for Tories, won't you, and get a war in Iran and ID cards.

Usefool idiot

I always vote for the tories

07.04.2005 15:48

but that's because I'm stupid like all tories. I'm most probably a bigot as well, if not an out and out racist, with so much money from exploiting people that I don't care about anyone but myself. Your problem is that you're committed to fairness, equality and peace. That's why you shouldn't vote for ID fiend and warmonger Tony like you did before. And you did, didn't you?
