British Press Awards demo goes well

Our second direct action leafletting event - following on from a successful intervention at the pathetic Royal Television Society Awards where several spook-linked hacks won awards - went well. These events allow us to contest opponents in the media right at the very core of the British media. This time newspapers - leaflets on journocops and state-compromised media were given to about 300 of the 900 attendees at this black tie event. Prominent 'celebrities' who were NFBd included Garry Bushell (he might be interested in our anti-BNP stance for obvious reasons), Trevor Kavanagh (who won Reporter of the Year and is behind the Sun's racist anti-gypsy campaign, see elsewhereon indymedia), Eve Pollard, Jeremy Clarkson, anti-AR journocop David Rose, AA Gill, Paul Dacre, Alaistar Stewart and choice other editors, journocops and hangers-on. One scatty twit journo accepted a leaflet but then waddled back perspiringly saying she couldn't accept it as she was nominated for an award. But we have never alleged that intelligence is a necessary attribute to write for a national newspaper and our attendance at these superficial events only conclusively confirms that.The best laugh of the night was when a scatty and mumbling John Seargeant came out tothe foyer area to pull together some snotty little tardy notes and was approached by one of our team to accept a leaflet - seeing the headline "JOURNOCOPS -TIME TO TAKE THEM ON" the antidiluvenian dribbling character appeared slightly rattled and shuffled off penguin-style into an alternative hotel door which he pushed and pushed at only to find it was a closed entrance. His melodramatic escape plan from the pestering NFB team backfiring splendidly and making him appear the buffoon he obviously really is. Human Windmill Andrew Mekon Marr, who presented the self-serving awards ceremony, where journos get thoroughly pissed and reveal themselves as baying hyenas (see last year's video of proceedings on the British Press Awards website), rudely refused a leaflet. One of the multi-layered reasons for doing such a subversive detornement against the Spectacle on open terrain is to teach these pro-capitalist propagandists that we are just as confident on their territory as on our own. So NFB will attend antiG8 and AR and similar events selling to the social movements we support, but we will also continue to organise surprise interventions to upset the enemy when they perhaps least expect it. Good fun was had by all - always a good laugh!
