PRESS RELEASE - End Arbitrary Detention and Deportation of Asylum Seekers
Dallas Court Reporting Centre, Tuesday 8th March at 12pm.
Following the undercover exposure of the abuse of asylum seekers in Oakington removal centre which has resulted in the suspension of 15 employees of Global Solutions Limited (GSL), a demonstration is planned on Tuesday, 8th March at 12pm at Dallas Court Reporting Centre, South Langworthy Road, Salford.
Asylum seekers from across Greater Manchester are required to sign at Dallas Court Reporting Centre up to three times a week. Every time they go there they face the humiliation of body searches and the prospect of arbitrary detention in removal centres such as Oakington and ultimately, deportation. The fear of being separated from their families, detained for an indefinite period in inhumane conditions and then finally deported is a constant source of stress. Detention at Dallas Court is one of the first links in the chain to eventual deportation to unsafe countries.
People are going to Dallas Court to demand that the unjust seizure, detention and deportation of asylum seekers (sometimes before their asylum claims have even been decided)must stop. Asylum seekers (many of whom have first hand experience of the conditions inside removal centres), and representatives from organisations who were involved in the planning of ‘Asylum Undercover’ will be present. We will request that a representative of Dallas Court comes out to meet with asylum seekers and supporters who have prepared a statement of demands which will be given to the representative and sent to the Home Office and parliament ministers.
You are invited to join us.
from Piccadilly Manchester, get the tram to South Langworthy Rd Salford. It stops near the Reporting Centre.
