The plan as envisaged so far is to have a political art gallery, bookshop/retail space, bookable meeting space, software and Internet access, library and events. However there will be opportunity to build more such features, within certain physical and legal confines.
Having rented a space and completed initial stages of renovation we are now opening up participation to anyone who wants to be involved by holding an open meeting.
This meeting will be on Wednesday 25th August at 19:30 in the social centre space in the basement of 24 Lever Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester M1 1DZ (Lever Street joins with Piccadilly Gardens and runs parallel to Oldham Street). There will be more such meetings after that date.
Please tell as many people as you think may be interested; please forward this email to other appropriate people and mailing lists.
We plan to open the social centre on 1st September beginning with the bookshop and art gallery. Before then there is still renovation needing to be done - if you want to come help now with renovation work we could use skilled and unskilled help each weekend from about 11am onwards.
You can see a Social Centre Structure Diagram that explains the group structure (which we have had to create in order to receive funding from some sources) at http://thegoldenear.org/must/group-structure.jpg (currently thegoldenear.org is a bit ill so it may not be available when you check, if so check back later and it may be ok)
Our temporary email address is mustsocial@yahoo.co.uk
(Manchester MUST means Manchester Underground Social Tea Party - sorry about that, but it shouldn't need to be used very often!)
