This conference will be held by the faculty of arts, and the faculty of social sciences and laws on 17/18th June. Entry is free, but they want you to pre-register.
for more details see this previous post... http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/manchester/2004/05/292395.html
he was one of the most vocal supporters of the invasion of Iraq in the mainstream corporate press (writing in the Independent).
maybe we should all go down to this event and suggest that since he thought it was such a wonderful idea for our corporations, economy, oil supplies (and his career), that he fully supports the project by joining the troops on the outskirts of Falluja (instead of Prime Sinister Tory Bliar sending 2000 moor poor sods who were forced to join the army through poverty and lack of other career options from Britain's most deprived areas).
maybe Agent 'Sara Lee' of the Biotic Baking Brigade will be in attendance too!!
for some of his endless meaningless meandering shite... http://argument.independent.co.uk/regular_columnists/johann_hari/story.jsp?story=493184

agree totally...it's journalists like him who pretend to be liberal, worldly and caring who are the most dangerous and insidious of the pro-war career journos.
like david arranovich's stalinist waffle in the Guardian and Observer, hari in his comment pages in the independent defended what was blatently invading and violently occupying an already crippled country, so the powerful elite the world over can finally secure iraq's huge oil supply and profits and privatise its economy. both men have shown that there appears to be wonderful career, TV and book publishing opportunities in being a 'caring' centre-left journo supporting a right-wing capitalist war.
anyone with 1/2 a brain who doesn't put their career before all else can see that dropping bombs on poverty-stricken Afghans or Iraqis and repressing a population just for corporate profit isn't a 'just cause'
Fuck him

I should warn any sensitive readers thinking about the above two articles that they contain rather too much information about Hari's mucus than any one person should ever have to know...
Other interesting Hari's stories are:

http://www.antiwar.com/spectator/spec36.html
Hari was also supposedly quoted in Private Eye as wondering whether Casablanca was an Arab country and if the British forces actually fought the Japanese in WW2. For some strange reason the Eye seem to think he's not that intelligent. There's been a couple of other stories about him in there as well, but can't remember what they were.
Anyway, best of luck to anyone trying to cause a bit of trouble at this one...

Oh don't make him even more self-important

This hostile heckling will be the fulfilment of his wettest dreams-- he will turn red, and will fulminate with anger and irritation, but he will be loving every moment of it. And it will turn up in his irritating columns for the next ten years.

whoever made the post about heckling being an infringement of free speech is clearly a twat...get real, we are not the ones controlling what information reaches the public.
it is not activists deciding what people hear or don't hear but the few corporations who control all the wests media outlets...TV, radio, newspapers etc. it is the likes of Murdoch and others behind the scenes who decide what ideas are exposed to the british public and not pissed off anti-war protestors. it is the likes of murdoch who enable shit journalists like hari to get a wage (as long as they write conformist shite) in the first place. the independent masquerades as the 'anti-war paper' so it is no coincidence they've found a muppet like hari to fuck with 'liberals' heads.
the largest single share (17%) in the independent is owned by the Murdoch empire by the way.
fuck the corporate media

I'm not even going to go into the gross disregard for grammatical conventions this post displays, but how about raising the level of debate her above that of three-year-olds?
I disagree with Johann Hari about the war as well, but actually getting to grips with the arguments of people you/I/we disagree with is the first stage in the process of convincing people that *our arguments are stronger*.
Johann has actually shown the ability to reflect on his own opinions and to deal with difficult facts, even if he still came out in favour of the whole disastrous enterprise. I suspect this is more than the author of this post has done.
As for sucking George Bush's corporate-fascist cock, here are some links to recent stories he's written:
"I backed the Iraq war - but I will protest against Bush today, and here's why."
"Bush is wrecking the global environment."
And if anyone can find any evidence of David Aaronovitch ever saying anything which could be characterised as remotely Stalinist I'd like to see some evidence.
Enjoy the debate - I might pop down myself. Unless there's a chance that some scary anarchist might 'fuck me up'.
