Manchester seems determined to shoot itself in the Northern quarter. The potiential gagging of city centre venue Night and day is another example of the city's cultural suicide.
How a long established city centre venue can come underthreat from one noisy resident beggars belief, but read on to find out the full story.

Night & Day Cafe in Manchester is a fantastic music venue who
have been part of the Manchester landscape for over 13 years.
See the following appeal and please help.
PLEASE SAVE NIGHT & DAY
A Local resident recently moved into a flat next door to us and objected
to the renewal of our entertainments licence in the rgounds that we are a
noise nuisance.
We have bent over backwards to accommodate this resident and
begged them to withdraw their objection. From the tone of the letters we
have been receiving from the council it is clear that they are firmly on
the side of the resident. Depsite the fact that they have been there for a
matter of months, as opposed to our thirteen years and the fact that we
employ 33 people. Not to mention of course that we provide a forum for
local rock and roll bands and other artists to perform, meet and progress
their careers.
Coincidentally - perhaps - we have, over the last month, come under
intense scrutiny from both the licensing officials and the police, and we
are firmly of the opinion that the council want us closed down.
Part of our campaign to stay open includes gathering as much public
support as we can. So please sign our online petition which we will be
producing should we ever have to appear in court.
Thank You. The Nigh and Day Staff

Plans for rundown area unveiled
Plans to redevelop a rundown part of Manchester city centre were due to be unveiled on Thursday.
£150m will be spent on an area near Piccadilly Station with new shops and bars and a futuristic new footbridge.
Austin Smith Lord has been chosen as the company to design the scheme.
The winner of a BBC GMR poetry competition will have their verse inscribed in stone as part of the development.
