Where’s the Chief-Executive of Wyre Borough now?
Wyre Borough Council vote to sell ‘the family silver’.
The chief-executive left Wyre Borough council over a year ago with a severance package believed to be in the region of £100,000. Prior to his going he instigated the Canatxx Gas Storage proposal and now appears to be employed by - you’ve guessed it - Canatxx.
Apart from that before leaving he put in place a rationalisation of the council. This entails the loss of several officers and the money needs to be raised to provide a severance package for each.
Six years ago Wyre Borough council was in the black but now.....
Capital has to be used to raise the revenue, in effect the council is ‘selling off the family silver’. In a vote last night the go-ahead was given for the sale of the Marsh Mill complex. A specialist auction firm will be appointed to oversee the sale. One of the local councillors says ‘It is just incredible. The council should be branded Tory Independent Traders. They are treating the assets of Wyre like Del Boy would treat second hand goods on Peckham market’. The current council leader stated that ‘We have to raise funds somehow. We have a very big investment program to deliver and we intend to deliver it’. Deliver it into whose pockets?
Does this involve the further ‘sell-off’ of Jubilee Gardens and Thornton Little Theatre? The word is that having refurbished the theatre, local groups have found that more than double the fee charged is well beyond their means and have had to go elsewhere. It seems the council will in time be able to claim that residents are not making use of the facility and put Thornton Little Theatre along with Marsh Mill on the open market. Will this investment programme be used to line the pockets of the departing council officials.....

And let's not be coy about this, it's Michael Brown we are talking about.

Michael Brown - an honourable man?

Now he chooses to disregard all those he served for many years, people he came to know very well, but has decided to 'direct' Canatxx for 'free' by storing 2,000,000 tonnes of gas under their houses! I don't think he's doing it for the love of the job when he knows there are 70,000 people frightened to death about these proposals!
He also whines that he doesn't need to declare an interst because he worked for Wyre Borough Council but the planning permission has been submitted to Lancashire County Council. However, he has the freedom of speech that those of our elected councillors apparently have not because they live within three miles of the proposed site. He also lives outside the three mile limit.
I don't think these are the actions of an honourable man. If he was he would declare an interest on behalf of the 70,000 people who paid his wages for so long, whom he knows so well and who came to trust him.
