Indymedia ireland editor Patrick Corcoran, resigned a week ago after he was convicted on child pornography possession charges . The collective issued a statement last week the full content of which can be read at the link below .There have been concerns expressed on the site about current editors downplaying the incident .

Despite having admitted to possession of thousands of child pornography images in 2009 ,Patrick Corocran's case inexplicably took four years to be brought to trial , where he went up before Judge Nolan - reportedly a former policeman - and given a suspended sentence. Over those past four years Corcoran became an indymedia editor -he had been involved with the site for many years previously .He told editors that he had been sacked from his civil service job because he had been editing for the indymedia site while at work .

Corcoran has been an activist with Animal rights groups, and a prominent Anti-Fascist Action volunteer . He was (or at least people thought he was )a prominent feminist and perhaps the fiercest defender of womens' rights in Ireland over the years a supporter of Shell to Sea and many other worthy causes . Since its founding Corcoran has been the most vocal supporter of the anti-Iranian Hands Off the People of Iran group in Ireland (HOPIeire).
