CAAT | 29.05.2013 11:23 | London

7 - 9pm at The Spark, as part of a week filled with discussions, music, workshops and film.

Session beginning with a short film on the Raytheon 9 protestors who stormed an arms factory in Derry, followed by discussions on the arms trade itself with with War on Want and Campaign Against the Arms Trade.

You'll find the Spark at the Blackfriars Hub, 58 Victoria Embankment, London, EC4Y 0DS between 10th and 14th June, then at University of London Union, Malet Street, London, WC1E 7HY on 15th June.

The G8 have some of the highest military budgets in the world. Five of the world's top six arms exporters are G8 countries, fuelling conflict and human rights abuses around the world. On the eve of a day of action on militarism, take part in this event to learn more and find ways to challenge the catastrophic commitment to arming the world and privatising warfare.

Hear from War on Want about the dangerous trend towards using Private Military and Security Companies to outsource security and privatise wars. Find out about recent developments in remote control wars that rely on drone technologies and Campaign Against Arms Trade will share the latest on Dsei one of the world's largest arms fairs, due to take place in London in September, and what you can do to help stop it.

This session will start with the inspiring short film “Not in Our Name” about 9 activists who stormed an arms factory in Derry, Northern Ireland on the 12th August 2006, during the Israeli military campaign against Lebanon. They caused an estimated £350,000 worth of damage and were arrested. They denied nothing, yet the jury acquitted them of all charges.
