RAMpart2 is dead - long live rampART1

Following the granting of an Interim Possession Order on Thursday the 20th March, RAMpart2 was left empty by squatters after a final party...

The rampART has outlived it's backup venue which was opened new years eve. The new building hosted just two parties, a handful of meetings and a climate camp direct action training gathering. Meanwhile, the rampART itself is still open four months after being served court papers for a repossession hearing.

The project lasted a little shy of three months and was taken to court three times by the owners who have planning consent to knock down the building for a six storey block to be built in its place.

It was meant to be a backup venue for the rampART which is still open four months after being served papers for repossession. Despite the huge amount of work put into the place during the first month or so, the building got little use beyond accommodation. On the day of the final court hearing the building was given over to local kids for a party. Notice of the interim possession order was served on the building at 4.40pm on Thursday which gave the occupiers 24 hours to vacate before continued occupation would become a criminal offense.

The Hackney Social Centre at 231 Lower Clapton Road has an eviction date of the 15th April and although it may last longer it's obvious that we should all be active in opening new spaces. Rampart can be evicted pretty much any time the owners choose and with the climate camp being london based again this year there will clearly be a great need for these spaces to help us organise over the coming months.

The days of action for squats and autonomous spaces which takes place the 11th and 12th April will be a good opportunity to move forward and get new social centres off the ground.
