Corrine | 07.12.2007 17:21 | Bio-technology | London | World

Police have mounted a camapign to "clean up " Camden and Islington after the opening of St Pancras Eurostar link. The link coincides with "regeneartion" of the area which is goinf[g to be tuned into a shiny new [YUK!] "business district"....This The area is also earmarked to become an "International Science Site".

Police and council officials are "clearing" Camden of "udesirables" in amove to "clean up" Camden to make way for a business district and International Science Site. Camden as we love and know it is being taken over by faceless corporations. It is also going to be turned into a huge science complex......

Bollox to CAmden

Hurry up and clean up Camden.

Everytime I go there I'm in an anxious state about being Mugged, ripped off, or pickpocketed etc.
It's become too sleazy, full of chancers and crack heads, dodgy blokes going there to pick up
vulnerable female tourists. Redneck Rock a Billy's etc etc.

No..to hell with Camden.

It's not worth saving.

Save what...A huge shopping Mall selling expensive tat..All the working class Cafe's were thrown out long ago....Busking no longer permitted...

No bollox to Camden

There is no THERE in There.

Cold Stomper

Labour Party rules Camden

With a far right party in control of Camden Town (Labour Party) it is not strange that they have decided to "clean it up".

Camden has been fucked for a long time, gentrification Vs gentrification

07.12.2007 20:52

Question to the Middle class of camden, what exactly you fighing for? More expensive trendy bars and deli's and less trash tat shops!

Camdens been fucked for so long, nothing but a consummerist pit for tourist and dealers selling designer drugs and hippy shit made by exploited kids in work houses around south east Asia and bordered by houses selling for 2 and 3 million with the odd housing estate hidden away..

Its a pity Camdens working class did'ent unite and fight against the first gentrification!

"Clean up"

Re : International Science Site, Personally, I think putting a dirty, filthy great big virus containment facility on a council estate is disgusting. Foot and Mouth disease was a laboratory leak from Pirbright...the plans for this lab are far more dangerous!

....nearly right! Actually they are axing the Camden methadone clinic for this!

Yes, the people behind the so-called "28 Days Later" lab planned for Camden are also plotting to build a SECOND animal testing lab or horror / terror facility on the Hampstead Road on the site of the ols National Temperance Hospital. The methadone clinic will be closed as part of this project and health chiefs want to open a new centre, including a needle exchange in South Camden.

The Margarete Centre on Hampstead Road dispenses methadone to addicts.

Apparently the centre is a listed building so who knows if the lab people will get away with this very, very unpopular project.

The security services MI5 have leaked security fears about both labs.
Local people wnat council housing on the site in Camden where a whopping 15,000 people are on ahousing waiting list. The council planning briefs which go back at leats as far as 2003 fior these sites call for at least 50% social housing which the lab people REFUSE to provide.

Thanks for the posting from this person....who ..er....got methadone prescribers down as "drug dealers" but this is just a point of view thing innit....; )

Other people want community projects which will give work to local people.

Dennis from Camden

Nearly right....The methadone clinic is being axed to make way for the labs.

TWO animal testing labs are planned for Camden. One of these will be built on the site of the old National Temperence Hospital and the Margarete Centre which dispenses methadone to addicts.

Health chiefs want to close the Maragret Centre and open a new clinic in South Camden with a needle exchange.

The proposed labs include the controversial "28 Days Later" lab which is vehemently opposed by local people and businesses who want council and homes and community projects providing work for local people on the land. Camden has a whopping 15,000 people on ahousing waiting list.

The person who wrote this was nearly right..although I suppose describing the methadone clinic as "drug dealers" is a point of view thing innit...; )
