Justice for Cleaners Halloween demo.

Guido | 02.11.2007 16:40 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | London

On Halloween masked up demonstrators visited the City of London to demand better wages for cleaning staff. There is probably more wealth in the square mile including the City and Canary Wharf than anywhere else in the country. Yet the people who keep those offices gleaming are lucky if they get the minimum wage.

The protest was focused on Citi Group who were presented with a Pumpkin at the end of the demonstration.

A previous demo at Canary Wharf resulted in over 1000 staff at Barclays getting a £1.10 pay rise per hour. The rise was not just for cleaners but for all ancillary staff, most of whom are migrant workers.

Even more recent J4C wins have been at 'Deloittes' and 'Lehman Bros' who now get £7.20p and sick pay and also 'KPMG' who are now on £7.70p an hour and already won sick pay.

And lets not forget Goldman Sachs:
