Is this a benefit or for profit gig?

21.10.2007 12:58

Adverts for commercial parties don't usually get left on the newswire.

hmm

That's right!

22.10.2007 09:43

It does not seem to be benefit for anything, therefore it is for profit and should not be on indy websute. Can put it on accessallareas.

undergrond culture

get off the net you geeks this is a donation entry not for profit event; you clearly havent supported any benefit events in london over the past several years; because you would have recognised the names!!!

all humus kru

hardly a for-profit

22.10.2007 14:27

Even without knowing who is playing, if it is 'donation only' then it is highly unlikely to be a for-profit event - such as Prince playing at Wembley, or Infected Mushroom playing at the Carling Academy. Have some perspective, for *ucks sake! Your comments depress me. Why bother getting out of bed at all huh?

It isn't commercial

22.10.2007 17:29

Yep it isn't a commercial event. Perhaps that should be have been made clearer. Thanks for the supportive comments - the names and venue should be recognisable with people from various groups involved etc etc.

BTW.There are relaxing film nights on Wednesdays ( including this one ) there and free reggae nights every other Wednesday, I believe amongst other stuff.

Follow the money

23.10.2007 01:12

Silly question perhaps but how does it being a 'donations' event mean that it's non profit?

Where does the money go?

Like the previous poster said, gig listings are normally only left in the newswire when they are being organised as a campaign fund raiser.

whos pocket?

The answer is

23.10.2007 13:24

indymedia moderators are friends of some of the people putting on this gig so they are turning a blind eye to the advert.

favoritism

if only it were true - it could start a trend

23.10.2007 14:33

I'm going to play a gig using my pubes. It won't pay any electricity to anyone and people will have to bring their own home brewed beer, using water from the sky. We're going to do it in the middle of the ocean - international waters - where there is no tax, and we're going to swim there powered by fish that we catch with our own hands. No money changing hands there at all.

Is that anti-capitalist enough?

Ridiculous

indymedia middle class bias taking the piss!

24.10.2007 16:49

Some fairness please. Why is the details about our party not being treated in the same way as the ramparts anarchist bookfair after party? Indymedia should be independent and inclusive not just a mouth piece for middle class hippies. Rampart posts with all their posh middle class hippy wank always get promoted, while this one is ignored and pushed off the newswire, why is that? It because indymedia is full of wannabe revolutionary middle class liberal wankers, thats why!

clarifications

25.10.2007 10:05

What is wrong with people on this site? Trying to waste peoples' time to start arguments when there isn't any? ( not just these postings either ) . Perhaps I am wasting mine by bothering to respond when I have other things to do. Perhaps just one or two very busy sociopathic trolls hiding miserably behind their computers - Is it waste of time posting on Indymedia UK these days ( hardly anybody seems to bother to follow the guidelines anyway ) OR is that what these people want - to waste our time replying to nonsense? I guess it's the latter. I digress...Anyway. Don't bother to reply ( or if you do want to insult me and my friends then do it to my face at the bookfair :) though I imagine you will be somewhere sweating over a computer ).

1./ Anyway, for clarity, there is no problem between Ramparts and Dame Collete both of which are small venues, and people from each benefit have been in contact with each other and happen to be FRIENDS. This is not a competition.

2./ Both events are benefits. For obvious reasons people don't put complete details of events, benefits and likewise actions on the internet inc.email etc etc etc. ( this includes my reply to the fellow with the glib Greg Pallast quote).

Have fun. Thank you and goodnight.
