Mining Heritage of Durham builds Bookfair
The first ever Working Class Bookfair is building momentum, as it gets closer to Saturday November 3rd. The latest development involves the Market Tavern public house, in Durhams' Market Place, which was the founding place of the important Durham Miners Association in the 19th century. The Manager, Melissa Snowden, has just agreed to arrange a number of Bookfair related activities.
To order several brands and barrels of real ale, working class favourites, especially for the event - including Jarrow breweries' "Maggie's End" (which celebrates the demise of Margaret Thatcher) and "Red Ellen" (which commemorates the socialist firebrand Jarrow M.P.)
To be the official Bookfair public house with an advert in the programme.
To receive Bookfair staff and those who attend throughout the day, and organise a room especially for Bookfair drinkers on the evening.
Bookfair organiser Trevor Bark today said; "The local N.U.M. has generously sponsored this first ever Working Class Bookfair, and it is not surprising that a great local pub with important historical mining associations has agreed to help with making the event a success. Cooperation has always been a working class tradition and it is events like this that will ensure socialist politics grow today and tomorrow".
