second tank at DSEi - it's for sale!

Police stopped Space Hijackers' first tank reaching DSEI however it turned out to be a decoy as they had a second tank which did make it to DSE5

Tank sold for hard cash dollars

11.09.2007 15:54

After offers of first born children, human organs and property it eventually sold for just $50 as the arms dealers considered cold hard cash to be worth more than human life. Up to around 200 people are there, with the party against the arms trade continuing.

50 dolars for a tank

working on our tank
working on our tank

Well well, it seems like some people thinks that we actually did sell the tank for 50 bucks...?

The buyer was actually one of the Space Hijackers and was all a performance, our tank is sane and safe somewhere in East London, waiting for the next action (as soon as we've done a bit of work on it and we get it fully road worthy).

Thanks to everyone that came to play with us, and a big thanks to the police that were so utterly oblivious of the second 80 tonne tank driving down the road behind their backs.

Much Respect

Did you really sell a fully-functional tank for 50 bucks? Please tell me it wasn't to some despotic third-world warlord. The movement'd never live that down... :P

Seriously tho, nicely done! I heard about the tank plan at the climate camp and immediately joined the ranks of the naysayers. "You can't just drive a tank though london!" I said. "That'd never work. The police'd stop you right away."

I don't think anyone saw the second tank coming. This'd best be all over the papers in the morning...

"The Pope? How many divisions has he got?" - Stalin

The Space Hijackers? How many divisions have they got?

If you have £5K+ to blow on a publicity stunt (minus the $50 you raised) then fair play to you. The phrase 'you couldn't buy this publicity' comes to mind. This tunt would raise millions for any other worthy cause. Very imaginative. Never mind 2-Jags Prescott, the tabloids tommorow are suddenly faced with the 2-tanks Space Hijackers.

Still, I would have payed more for a £5k tank ( up to £200) so if I have one criticism it is - 'You are really crap capitalists'. That is the opposite of 'faint praise'. Once it is all over, tell the story of the idea and planning here, please.

were now in a hell of a lot of debt!

13.09.2007 13:41

Yup, we're in a load of debt cos of the price of renting the second tank, it was well worth it though just to see the faces on the policemen and women! The sight of them all suddently scribbling in their notepads and contacting people on their radios when another agent revealed the big news to them through the tanks kick ass sound system.
I could have cried laughing...

But yes, we're incredibly in debt now so if you haven't bought a t-shirt or made a donation we would love you to do so - www.spacehijackers.org/tank/

Thanks every for such a great day, we got to shout and swear at the arms dealers on their way out and lots of them looked surprised to see a big ex-UN tank pointed at the excel center.
I hope you all enjoyed it and my thoughts go to those arrested before hand (even a few of them were hijackers im led to believe).
