Former Congresswoman and US Presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney is visiting the UK as part of a European tour and will be presenting a talk entitled ' Confronting Empire ' in Leeds and London on September 9th & 10th respectively.

In 1992 Cynthia made history when she became the first African American woman to represent Georgia in the United States House of Representatives.

During her tenure, Cynthia won recognition as an outspoken leader for human rights, an ardent advocate for peace, and a determined worker for justice. As reports now surface that US soldiers are returning from Iraq and testing positive for depleted uranium, it is important to note that Cynthia McKinney sponsored legislation to end the use of all depleted uranium weapons until their health effects are known.

Cynthia voted against record Bush administration Pentagon budgets, and challenged the Pentagon to explain how it "lost" over $2.3 trillion in un-traceable transactions. She continues to decry the Pentagon's sweetheart deals with Halliburton, the Carlyle Group, and DynCorp and its successor companies.

Cynthia speaks out against the loss of fundamental freedoms under the Bush administration. She became one of the first Members of Congress to demand a thorough investigation into the events of September 11, 2001 and responsibly asked the question: "What did the administration know and when did it know it about the events of September 11th ?" As a result of her thought-provoking question, an estimated 40,000 Republicans voted in the Georgia Democratic Primary to oust Cynthia. It is called "crossover" voting and her supporters filed a lawsuit against this practice.

Cynthia will be standing as the Green Party Presidential candidate in 2008.

LONDON TALK: Main Hall Friends House, Euston, London NW1 (opposite Euston tube station), Monday September 10th, 6.30pm Admission £5 (£3 concessions)

Slave Revolt Radio: Negroes quit playing, The problem with Cynthia McKinney

If one were to glide through the Sudan, Congo, Hati, New Orleans, and the rest of Sams plantation one would notice the same thing. Black folks are being exterminated in a cold calculated way by our enemies.

Some of the question we need to start asking ourselves is how should we respond. Have the 'protest' tatics worked?. If we don't have the right to live do the people who are involved in these campaigns have a right to live?. In a (Ruins of Empire) piece called 'Negroes quit playing' Slave Revolt deal with this topic head on.

Then in a (Beyond the shadow) segment called 'The problem with Cynthia McKinney' we deal with why the State hates one it's own Representative in Congress. Why the corporate media loves to bash her. And why Rumsfeld bumbles in her company. Outlining that in this late stage of a degenerated capitalism order independent questions by one of their own can't be tolerated.

food for thought

It is not exactly amazing, but certainly worthy of attention, that when
struggles by women, and gays, and black people for social justice are
actually successful, the ruling class finds a way to appropriate those
successes in its discursive strategies - so suddenly, an attack on
Sudan would be anti-racist, a defense of black 'Africans' against
'Arabs' (who also happen to be black), while an attack on Iran would
be about liberating gay people and women etc. [ http://leninology.blogspot.com/2006/10/colonialism-and-feminism.html]

It must be understood that those who sacrifice so
much to stop these imperial wars are fighting on multiple fronts. They
are fighting against the empire in a very difficult theater. They are
also fighting against large well-funded organizations and coalitions
within the anti-war movement who are not "anti-war" at all.

A great woman speaking truth...

05.09.2007 12:52

...and the only two comments here so far are from shrill shills? WTF indeed?

You probably already realise your comments contravene IMC rules? They are not only racist but also sexist.

Time you characters got a grip on the meaning of 'independent' media, IMV

Cynthia McKinney will bring a much needed breath of fresh air into this totally stifled country. Perhaps its her outspokenness on the 9/11 atrocity and subsequent cover-up that has you knee-jerking your way into prolonging the cover-up? What are you afraid of? What are you guilty of?

Republican?

I think you will find she was a Democrat, not that it makes much difference: both are imperial war parties.

Want to know more about what she thinks of the Empire (hint, see the title of the tour)? You could start by looking at the articles that mention her on this site:

Not very good criticisms

05.09.2007 13:43

Criticising me on the grounds of racism and sexism are the lamest excuses for an arguement I've seen in a while.

james

To IMC user...

05.09.2007 14:33

...so IMC rules bar the Greens & fringe parties too? Hmm, awful of of posts to go through in which case.

===

and to 'james' who says racism, sexism are lame excuses - generally trashing a topic vital to world peace is way beyond lame - moves into 'evil' territory, IMO.

Suffragette

correct

Curse the silly twat

05.09.2007 21:53

who posted this on Leeds/Bradford less than 2 hours after my localised posting, presumably from London. Anyway be there folks. The Yorkshire folk aint taken in by the ex-congress and Green presidential stuff, just regarding Cynthia as a worthwhile catch and useful contributor now to the truth movement..
Also this post doesn't refer to the weekend's presence on the street so look back to the previous one
Thanks

To all those who are quoting guidelines

06.09.2007 11:36

-Presumably you're all (or possibly its just one of you?) suggesting that this guideline prohibits the post:

Hierarchy : The newswire is designed to generate a news resource, not a notice-board for political parties or any other hierarchically structured organizations.

Well, its unlikely that the USA Green Party organised this tour, and its even more unlikely that this is an attempt to pick up votes for her campaign.

Furthermore, as you've all (or the rabid one of you) developed such respect for the guidelines, what about this one?:

-Concerns about editorial guidelines or queries about moderation are dealt with on the imc-uk-features list. These issues are not dealt with through the newswire, and newswire posts on these topics will be hidden.

Why not contact the list and explain what guideline it breaches and why it should be hidden?
