Bicycle discrimination in the SOCPA zone.

Masser | 01.09.2007 07:50 | SOCPA | Repression | Social Struggles | London

The MP3 recording is further confirmation of the discrimination exercised against cyclists by the police during the monthly Critical Mass.

Sorry about the background noise, recorded on a mobile. - mp3 1.2M

It boils down to this, drivers are allowed to play their sound systems in the vicinity of Parliament within the SOCPA zone as long as it does not cause annoyance but cyclists are not allowed to play their sound systems there AT ALL! When is this ever going to be challenged in court?

During this threat by the police the cyclist with the sound system was videoed and asked for his name which he refused to give.

I noticed

yesterday evening as I walked past the NFT that there seemed to be an awful lot more police massers than before and much fitter looking ones,TSG,I thought? It would be intresting to hear what the attitude of these police massers was like,as I was unable to attend this months cycle ride with my mates, but as I walked across Waterloo bridge it was a very impressive sight, literally hundreds of cyclists!Great to see a penny farthing, also to be able to communicate with pedestrians passing who were intrested inwhat was going on and could be informed.By the sounds of things there will be more mates to join a ride in the future. Big up to the few who took the underpass! As I was walking along Oxford st I noticed a civilian cyclist getting out of a police van and what seemed to be taking instructions on a walkie talkie. (Undercover cops on a bike ride?) It will be intresting to find out how this problem with the sound systems in Parliment Sq can be addressed "legally" . If anyone has any knowledge of the SOPCA laws ect,it would be intresting to hear peoples opinions. I would be prepared to bring a sound system next time. What is also needed is solidarity,a bike bloc around the sound system so the Met bloc would not be able to stop it without using thier usual violence. Obviously it would be much easier for future evidence if it could also be filmed. I`d be intrested to hear others peoples opinions and look forward to reading further reports of Augusts ride.
