Trafalgar Square Climate protest

tentpeg | 20.08.2007 10:12 | Climate Camp 2007 | Climate Chaos | London

Not waving but drowning....

Five 'drowned' figures were floated in Trafalgar Square fountains this morning to highlight the link between flying and climate chaos. Each carried his/her own placard with messages such as "Your flight cost me my home", " Your flight cost me my children", etc. Tourists and passers-by were given leaflets made at the Camp for Climate Action and many seemed unaware of the current crisis in Bangladesh, where half the country is under water.

Carbon Offset & Carbon Trading not the answer

20.08.2007 10:51

Carbon offsetting and carbon trading are the capitalist answer to unsustainable global warming activities, the problem is that these measures are still unsustainable and do nothing to stop or reverse climate change, the only thing they do is to make money for a minority and clear the conscience (stupidity is a bless) of the privilege few whilst increasing the speed of global warming.

What is clear is that the poor of the world will have to pay the price of our consumption, without having contributed or benefited from the carbon crazy lives we live.

So well done for the Climate Camp and their supporters to make the point, rise awareness and discredit miths about what is the solution(s) and what is a con.
