Shut Down Guantánamo! Weekly Demo, London

London Guantánamo Campaign | 05.08.2007 11:40 | Repression | Terror War | London

The London Guantánamo Campaign has been protesting outside the US Embassy in Mayfair every Friday evening at 6-7pm since February 2007. Come and join us!

The London Guantánamo Campaign has been holding a weekly demonstration outside the US Embassy in Mayfair, London, every Friday evening at 6-7pm since the beginning of February 2007. We plan to continue our protest until the American government closes down the torture and internment without trial or charge "camp" for good. Over 350 men still remain, some held for over 5 1/2 years without charge or trial...and there's not much chance of that ever happening either!

Six people (not all in the pictures) joined the demonstration on a sunny Friday evening on 3 August, holding placards and handing out leaflets to passers by. We will there next week... and the week after... and the week after that... until Guantánamo Bay shuts down once and for all. We will not be deterred by the building works outside the Embassy either!

If you are on your way home from work, on your way out for the evening or visiting London over the summer, come and join us for an hour of peaceful protest against torture, the inhumane treatment of detainees and detention without trial or charge for the past 5 1/2 years. We ask for one hour of your week for justice and human rights, the detainees in Guantánamo have already given over five years of their lives...

We meet opposite the entrance to the US Embassy (where the building works are) just outside beautiful Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, W1 (nearest tube: Bond Street/Marble Arch - behind Oxford Street). You may being your own banners and orange jumpsuits if you like.
