The Brighton Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group
( http://tubas.brightonpalestine.org)
aims to create links between grassroots groups in Tubas, Palestine and
Brighton, UK. It was launched in 2005 and since then has worked with
diverse groups in Tubas and Brighton to create sustainable initiatives. A
delegation of 17 people from Brighton visited Tubas in March 2007. Since
then the University of Sussex student union has affiliated to Al Quds Open
University in Tubas and plans to provide scholarships for Palestinian
students.

At the end of September we plan to bring a group of Palestinians to
Brighton to speak about life under occupation, meet with groups who have
links with organisations in Tubas and begin new initiatives. We need to
raise at least £1500 to support this group to visit Brighton.

We also require donations to support people from the village of Fasayil.
Fasayil is a village in the Jordan Valley, Tubas Region, where Israeli
restrictions prevent residents from building houses. The majority of
villagers live in shacks or tents while the few stone dwellings,
electricity pylons and village toilets are scheduled for demolition by the
military.

The majority children in Fasayil do not go to school as Israeli
restrictions prevent the villagers from building a school. Many of the
village children work for the Israeli agricultural company, Carmel
Agrexco, who farm land stolen from the village since 1967.

The villagers of Fasayil live in dire poverty because of the Israeli
military restrictions aimed at destroying their livelihoods and pushing
them out of the area.

The Fasayil village committee plans to build a school for the village
children in defiance of the Israeli restrictions. The school will be built
from traditional materials (grass and clay) – the idea being that if the
Israelis knock it down he school can be built again cheaply.

Brighton Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group would like to raise £1500
to support the villagers in building the school. We would also like to
send volunteers to participate in the work.

Thank you very much for your support.
