AWARD WINNING WELSH FILM DUO JOIN FORCES

June 12 2007
Gower's famous surf beaches will be the focus of a new movie from 2 Welsh
award-winning filmmakers.

Anne Gallagher, winner of best Environmental Film in the recent Swansea Bay
Film Festival said;
"My observations in Gower over last winter were that the waves were bigger
and more consistent, and the sea temperatures warmer. These effects may be
linked to climate change, with more hurricanes happening in the Atlantic and
Caribbean."

Now Anne plans to put her theory to the test with the help of another award
winning film-maker Helen lles, co-founder of Swansea based film group,
Undercurrents.

Anne and Helen have begun to document the changes in sand erosion on Gower.
The movie duo will interview local experts to explore any links to worldwide
climate change.

Anne added;
"There's a lot of anecdotal evidence from ordinary people noticing changes
in weather patterns. We'd like to draw attention to what's happening on
Gower."

The surf movie will attract surfers of another kind- on the internet. The
film will be released in monthly instalments, free to download from a
dynamic new Tv channel www.visionontv.net

Helen commented;
"Rather than releasing a movie in a years time, we will release extracts
each month as we film. We can then explore what is happening month by month
and anyone will be able to post comments, give advice and make suggestions
about areas to explore. In this way we can start a local conversation about
how climate change is affecting the Gower area."

Anyone who can offer help support the film can contact the filmmakers at
 helen@undercurrents.org or call 01792
455900. The film duo are particularly interested in offers of funding
support or sponsorship.
