London Meeting Random People Event

Phil | 07.06.2007 08:59 | London

Starting at 2 pm on Friday June 8 outside Starbucks in Leicester Square. In London, unless people are drunk they don't talk to other people. Which is a sad state of affairs. By getting random people to talk to one another, who knows, London might be a slightly more friendly place to be.

Members of the group will go up to random members of the public and start chatting to them. You can talk about anything you want, or, if you're stuck for something to say, go up to people and say: "Hey, I'm wondering, would you like to join us?" And when they look at you blankly, say: "We are members of the London Meeting Random People Meet-Up Group. And we are looking for people to join us. Why don't you join us?"

If people ask why, the premise is simple: in London, unless people are drunk they don't talk to other people. Which is a sad state of affairs. By getting random people to talk to one another, who knows, London might be a slightly more friendly place to be.

Chances are that while some people won't be interested in joining, other people will. What better way to meet and befriend more people? This event will be taking place weekly. There is no obligation to come every week. Show up as often or as infrequently as you want. If you can't make Friday, by all means, come on Saturday or Sunday. The more the merrier. Let's see how many new members we can get to join us. Hopefully, it will snowball into something really cool.
