PRESS RELEASE
DAM INTERNATIONAL TOUR SUMMER 07
LONDON 17TH JUNE – CELEBRATING SANCTUARY
LONDON 15TH JULY – RISE FESTIVAL
THE NEW ‘PEACEFUL PROTEST’ PALESTINIAN RAP GROUP
“HIP HOP THE PALESTINIAN WAY” CNN
DAM is Palestine’s seminal rap band, and one of the most interesting groups garnering international attention today. Through their music, DAM raises awareness of the situation of Palestinians living in Israel, proving that rap is a fantastic tool to forge identity and build strength and hope in our acutely discriminating world.
Following the success of their first album DEDICATION, released at the end of 2006, DAM has embarked on an international tour this spring and summer. News of their unique message and ground-breaking live shows has already spread around countries such as Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden and Belgium. Before flying to North America, DAM return to the UK for two free concerts in London, on the 17th June (Refugee Festival – Celebrating Sanctuary – South Bank – 18h15) and the 15th July (Rise Festival – Finsbury Park). June 2007 coincidentally marks the 40th anniversary of the Six Day War between Israel and its Arab neighbours.
DAM’s album is a tour de force. It is a unique fusion of East and West, combining Arabic percussive rhythms, Middle Eastern melodies and urban hip hop/rap.
DAM’s powerful lyrics are influenced by the continuing Israeli - Palestinian conflict as well as by the Palestinian struggle for freedom and equality. DAM also draws their influence from such controversial issues as terrorism, drugs and women’s rights. Don’t miss their show!
"Very impressive. Hearing the album wets the appetite for seeing the group play live " CHARLIE GILLETT BBC Radio UK
