dancer | 01.05.2007 14:16 | Mayday 2007 | Social Struggles | Workers' Movements | London

A street party in corporate London on Tues May 1st 2007

Meeting Point:
5pm by the clocks
Reuters Square / Canada Square
The south side of Canary Wharf - London

The party starts at 5pm prompt, however in order to arrive safely and sneak along, we recommend that you arrive early and have a drink in one of the many nearby bars.

Remember stealth and cunning is the key to getting this party started, dress in disguise (look as corporate as possible, see the dressing up guide below), if you are asked any questions insist that you work there and are just dancing along with everyone else.

If you are going to bring drinks, make them subtle, hip flasks not cans of Stella. Alternatively drink in the nearby bars.

Join in the singalonga - print out a song sheet available below.
Bring friends, bring instruments, bring bands, bring drinks and cakes to share, bring smiles and bring your dancing shoes!

Mayday Protests - Reuters Plaza

In previous years May 1 has been a key date for large gatherings/protests in London.

We have been advised that protestors intend to meet at 5pm in Reuters Plaza. Their intended targets or eventual destination is unknown at this time. However, security precautions will be in place to deal with any disturbances or attempts to enter the building.

Please ensure you carry your ID cards at all times and produce these on entry to the building. Also, please cooperate fully with the security staff who are here to ensure your safety. When leaving the building, you are advised to remove your ID's and not display these while outside the building.

There is no indication that the protests will result in violence but staff are advised to avoid any large gatherings in the area as a precaution. Canary Wharf Security and the Metropolitan Police will ensure a presence outside the building and throughout the Canary Wharf Estate and we will liaise closely with them throughout the day.
