Stop deportation and detention of Ethiopian asylum seekers

Kinijit's support organisation KSOUK in the UK has staged a demonstration today in front of the Minister for Immigration, Marsham Street. They are challenging the decision of the British government to detain and deport asylum seekers from Ethiopia.
Between 50 and 60 people took part, mostly Ethiopian refugees and their supporters.
Members fo the opposition face being imprisoned and tortured if deported back to Ethiopia.

In a press release KSOUK issued recently, it blamed the government of Tony Blair for ignoring the plight of Ethiopian asylum seekers who have fled the gross human rights violations and atrocities being perpetrated by the Meles regime.

KSOUK has demanded an end to detentions and deportations of Ethiopian asylum seekers. It urged the Ethiopian community in the UK to come out in full force to oppose detention and deportation to Ethiopia. Hundreds of Ethiopians, including members and supporters of Kinijit and the Oromo Liberation Front (OLE), have reportedly been detained awaiting deportation back to the dictator's den.

A desperate member of the OLF, currently detained at Yarl's Wood Removal Centre, Bedfordshire, has appealed for help to stop her deportation back to the persecution she has fled.

The Ethiopian Embassy in London, headed by Ambassador Berhanu Kebede, is currently facilitating fast-track deportations by issuing travel documents without the consent of would-be deportees.
