7 activists today (Saturday) at 2-15pm held a small demo outside Marks and Spencers in Brighton. We were there, with bloody hands, to ask shoppers to boycott Israeli goods.
The M&S security staff were obviously very, very annoyed at the obvious interruption to their flow of business but it took over an hour for Sussex Police to turn up. As it happens we'd finished our demo a few minutes before they eventually appeared.
They could then only point out that the nearby the Palestine Solidarity Campaign stall was causing an obstruction and then asked if they had a trader's licence as there were two collection boxes on the table. They were then told that despite having been in town every Saturday for the last five years they should apply for a traders licence to continue 'trading'. A very interesting interaction then took place the result of which was to suggest that further action may be taken should they turn up again without a licence.
This is obviously Sussex Police again attempting to punish those who would attempt to go too far without their permission. Blood (fake or real) is very bad for business...
As a reaction to this failed, low level intimidation we will be holding a mass 'blood on their hands' protest outside M&S in Western Road next Saturday 21st October. Please meet at the Clock tower in Brighton at 1pm. We hope for some more interesting interactions!
