Outside the venue the many police in attendance behaved like bastards from the start pushing protestors around and forcing them under threat of arrest to the opposite side of the road behind a barrier.
Anyone leaving the cordon was followed through the streets of Eastbourne and the police gave the good people of Eastbourne a preview of the forthcoming police state being introduced by this Government. These days going to buy a sandwich is a potential criminal act so must be closely monitored by the police.
It seemed that our megaphone was upsetting unamed members of the public and so we were ordered to stop using it. We were given 10 minutes to stop using it. After only a minute the megaphone was handed over to one of Sussex Police's favorite protestors so they took their chance to nab him and immediately without warning arrested him.
He is now at Eastbourne Station. Saturday night in Eastbourne! The police station is probably the best place to be.
Sussex Police have an awful record of prosecuting Brighton Activists and I don't see the pattern changing now.
Please get down tomorrow for the singles match and some more police fun.

What a suprise

The basis for the demo is Israel's invasion of the Lebenon and the tennis game is being targeted because it is being attended by Israeli citizens and it result will be considered important amongst the tennis community in Israel so a presecence there is a very good way of making sure that our objections are heard within the state of Israel.
Hopefully more people will be attending the Sunday demo because with numbers over 35 we can seriously attempt to disrupt the event or at the very least get noticed by the supporters attending it.

Boycott Israel
23.07.2006 10:07
Do you remember the boycott of South Africa, when the UK boycott played its part in dismantling apartheid? That is what is now needed from the British public against Israel.
Sanctions and boycotts from the Western powers that support Israel would put pressure on Israel to end its massacre in Lebanon and Palestine. I'm sure if this happened there would be a lot less deaths on both sides. At the moment 350(+) lebanese have been killed, one third of which are children. 35 Israelis have been killed, 2 of which are children. 20% of the population of Lebanon have been displaced.
I'm sure what we all want at this stage is to avoid a humanitarian crisis. I believe that we all have the power to Boycott Israel in any way we can. The demonstration outside the Davies Cup was in fact a huge success. We did not allow what is happening in the middle East to be ignored. We made lots of noise, gave information to the public about the boycott and received some support from passers-by.

Today's Protest
23.07.2006 17:02
One protester told me how he got to just behind the stand. He said "I blew my whistle as loud as I could right in front of the police. Although it was a pathetic thing to do as there was more noise coming from the match it just helped release a bit of frustration. I was then stopped and search by two policemen who took my whistle and details then followed me around while I looked for my friends. They later came up to me again much more agressively and said I was acting suspiciously and would arrest me if I entered the area again. This was a bit of a problem as I needed to meet my friends to get home to Brighton. In the end I just thought fuck them and went back to get my lift home and luckily they didn't see me."
"Why should I risk arrest just to make my voice heard. If it's a case of risking arrest for just being there then why not make it worthwhile. This just makes me even more angry at what's going on."

... what it's about.
Pity this event happened the same day as the national protest.
Maybe next time ...
... aren't israel in englands euro qualifying group?
The disgusting media whores gave voice to only 2-3 seconds of israels 'stunning' victory in the davis cup and zero to you lot.
Perhaps a change in tactics.
Next time buy tickets, get in and disrupt.
Anyone remember the south african rugby tour at the hight of the struggle? Every match was met with pitched battles and disruption from INSIDE the grounds ... hence the cancellation of some matches and LOTS of news coverage.
