Meeting Postponed...

Jean Charles de Menezes Family Campaign

Urgent Notice

On 22nd July 2006 at 2.30pm our families intended to come together at Friends Meeting House, Euston Road to mark the one year anniversary of the death of Jean Charles, an innocent young man gunned down by police officers at Stockwell tube station.

Jean was a man who loved living in London, he loved its diversity, its people and its positive energy. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his family, his friends and even strangers. He had a strong belief in God, in humanity and in peace. He was a man who loved the very essence of life.

For the last 10 days innocent men, women and children have been killed, injured and displaced from their homes in the Middle East. There appears to no end in sight to the terror being unleashed in the Middle East. Indeed the horror of war seems to be on the brink of enveloping the whole region.

In light of these events, the families have taken the decision to postpone the meeting tomorrow.

We believe that the most fitting tribute to Jeans life is for you, your friends and family to take action for peace. We must prevent further conflict and bloodshed - to ensure that no other mother suffers the death of a child, no other family sees a loved one shot for no reason other than his religion and no more families suffer the trauma of their homes being violated by strangers.

We thank all of you who were planning to attend the meeting, the distinguished guests who were to speak and all those who have supported us in our fight for justice. We will shortly be announcing a new date for a Commemoration Service.

The Menezes, Kalam and Dogha Families

Note: The family of Jean Charles de Menezes will be at Stockwell tube station at 9.30am on Saturday 22nd July 2006 for a flower laying ceremony to mark the exact moment of Jean’s death.
