London climate camp neighbourhood meeting & film show

There's a Camp for Climate Action London neighbourhood special meet this Thursday night July 20th at LARC (62 Fieldgate Street, E1, Whitechapel tube)from 7.30pm, followed by a showing of 'Power of the Community', about the way Cuba has coped without oil to make vibrant sustainable communities. All are welcome.

covering letter:

Climate change will transform life on Earth without action now. We are currently on course for a 3C degree rise in temperature, which is likely to mean the deaths of 400 million of the world's poorest people, and a social crisis that will engulf us all. And still the insane machine rumbles on: political clichés about sustainable growth, full steam ahead for nuclear power, the new Airbus, civil war in Iraq, gridlocked motorways rumbling towards oil depletion…

The Camp for Climate Action is about standing up and saying no to a system that puts the economy and the market before life and the ecology of the planet. The Camp will take place in Megawatt Valley, near Leeds, which is the home of Drax power station, the largest single emitter of carbon dioxide in the UK.

At the Camp, thousands of people will take part in 10 days of low impact living, with information on climate change, debates, practical workshops to reduce our ecological footprints, and mass direct action against major carbon criminals. The cost of entry will be more or less £10.

If you are London (or near London-) based, you may like to know that a London ‘neighbourhood’ is being organised by London Rising Tide and friends. This will mean a kitchen, some sort of urban theme, and a chance for people from roughly the same area to get to know eachother in order to make action in the future more likely.

It would be great if you could come along, and/or spread the word in whatever way you can. Let us know also if you would like someone to come along and speak to – or run a workshop with - a group of you, or if you would like further information. Please let us know also if you would like any flyers or posters; if so, please let us have an address and a preferred quantity.

We would also like to be kept in touch about what you or your group is up to, so please feel free to add us (London Rising Tide) to your mailing lists.
