Rally For Justice, New Scotland Yard

Peter Marshall | 12.06.2006 09:45 | Anti-racism | Repression | London | World

A crowd of several hundred demonstrators, mainly Muslim, gathered outside New Scotland Yard on Sunday afternoon, 11 June, 2006 to voice their disquiet at the June 2 raid in Forest Gate. The protest had the support of a wide range of organisations.

Speakers from across the Muslim community as well as others including Respect MP George Galloway and Lindsey German of 'Stop The War' expressed their misgivings at the heavy-handed approach of the police and the targeting of Muslims. There were calls for the resignation of the Metropolitan Police chief, Sir Ian Blair. Many also called for Tony Blair to go for his support of the shooting of Mohammed Abdul Kahar during the arrest of him and his brother, Abul Koyair, seen as a part of his continuing contribution to a rising Islamophobia.

Several speakers made the point that 'police intelligence' was in almost all respects woefully lacking. All of us are put at danger - as last year's London bombings showed - because police waste time and resources on false rumours such as those behind this raid. One speaker went through a long, long list of such happenings around the country, including some the police still persist in believing despite having cases thrown out by the courts.

Its perhaps a little unfair to blame the police; many if not most of these cases have been forced on them by military intelligence and government pressure. But the effect of such blunders is to alienate people of good will, especially those Muslims who would otherwise be the only reliable route to reliable information.

This was an event that attracted major media attention; it was difficult to get an accurate count of the number of demonstrators because there were so many reporters and photographers etc present. Along with a core of 250, representing the number of police involved in the raid, there were probably a hundred or more others.

Humeya Kalam, sister of the two brothers (who were released on Friday) sent a message of support that was read to the crowd. She wrote, "My brothers would like to have come today, to show unity.

"However they are unable to do so because they are still recovering from their injuries - both physically as well as mentally." Her statement went on to protest against the "barbaric and horrific actions taken against an innocent family" and to hope that the protest would "highlight the fact no other innocent family should be forced to go through the same nightmare".

A further protest is planned for next Sunday in Plashet Park in East Ham, which is hoped will unite people from every faith and community" in Newham.

More pictures from this event will be on My London Diary in a few days.

Ah yes, only obeying orders- no where have we heard that excuse before? But given Indymedia UK has promoted this story because it serves their hidden agenda, lets look a little closer.

!) The bigger the potential threat, the more extreme can be the states response on much flimsier 'evidence'. This meme is pushed by Blair's mass media, and likewise here. Consider the logic.

"My neighbour has stolen my newspaper"- so trivial that I'm going to need masses of evidence before the state even considers approaching my neighbour.

"My neighbour is from planet Zarg, and has a device that will cause our Sun to explode"- so massively dangerous if true that the state had better launch an immediate airstrike against his house on my word alone, and only worry about evidence afterwards.

CAN YOU SPOT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS LOGIC, AND HOW SUCH LOGIC, IF IMPLEMENTED, SERVES THE DESIRES OF THOSE IN POWER? Hitler said that the jews were such a massive threat to the German people, that they had to be rounded up and put in death camps just to be safe.

2) When the police make a mistake, it's only because those 'damn' muslims refuse to give accurate information about the 'true' muslim 'terrorists'.

So, the author is ACTUALLY stating that the mistake of the raid is PROOF that the muslims are not co-operating properly in identifying actual muslim 'terrorists'. This is NOT my interpretation of his words, but a direct extraction of the carefully disguised logic.

>>>"Muslims who would otherwise be the ONLY reliable route to reliable information." my emphasis

Here the author clearly states a fact, and the use of the word 'only' leaves no doubt of what this fact is. The connection between the information on which the police act, and the actions of the muslim community are set in stone by this guy. It is common with propagandists that a simple analysis of their words will clearly identify their agenda. The trick he uses is to put this fact at the end of the paragraph, so that the meaning is absorbed, but the casual reader misses the manipulation.

So Indymedia UK promotes a story that tells us that muslims are either terrorists, or people that know of terrorists but refuse to inform the police.

Right at the top is Galloway, the man responsible for painting the UK anti-war movement as a movement of 'militant islam' and ensuring that no anti-war party stands in any significant number of seats during a national election. The two actions in combination have ensured that Blair was fully protected against any negative consequences resulting from his invasion of Iraq.

Blair has an army of uniformed thugs that can now be trusted to act in the most sickening racist brutal fashion at any place in the UK. Blair has an army of New Reich goons that can be trusted to post articles in support of any brutal actions of his so-called police, no matter how horrific. Blair KNOWS that said articles will be given highest prominence, whether in The Guardian, or, as in this case, on Indymedia UK. Blair KNOWS that the gatekeepers will do their VERY BEST to suppress comment such as this, if it is at all possible without risking the 'reputation' that such an outlet tries to nurture amongst its readers.

Hey, I'm cleverer than I thought

It's nice to be told that I'm so much cleverer than I thought I was, but I have to confess it isn't really true. Though I think I may have a rather stronger grasp of logic than some demonstrate:-)

I've never said or implied that all terrorist acts likely to be committed in the UK will be by Muslim terrorists. I've never thought it, and I'm usually reasonably careful to say what I think.

If you had been there Sunday you would have heard similar sentiments to those I expressed from several of the speakers - mainly Muslim. So although the views in the piece were mine, I can't claim any originality for them. It is essentially a report of the event.

Certainly you can't blame Indymedia for what I write.

Regards,

Peter
