SOLIDARITY TO THE HUNGER STRIKERS / CLOSE ALL DETENTION CENTERES

London NoBorders | 30.04.2006 00:18 | April 2006 No Borders Days of Action | Anti-racism | Migration | Repression | London

Today we displayed a banner in Trafalgar Square during the Love Music Hate Racism event, reading ' SOLIDARITY TO THE HUNGER STRIKERS / CLOSE ALL DETENTION CENTERES'. Thousands of people saw it, altough I cannot guarantee they understood. We distributed a leaflet about the hunger strike.

Several asylum seekers and migrants are still on hunger strike in Colnbrook and other detention centres, some have re-started the strike after their requests were more or less ignored. Amongst them Amos Onokare Alajaibo, who is badly injuried after being beaten by mufti (prison riot squad) at Haslar detention centere, after the peaceful occupation of the courtyard. Amos and most of the Haslar protesters were moved to Colnbrook. As a result of the beating, Amos has lost use of his hands and other detanees have to feed him , he can only drink with a straw, one of his knees is injuried and he has to move around hopping on one leg, as he has been denied the use of a wheelchair. According to the Health 'Care' in Colnbrook he does not have mobility problems. He also suffers from sharp pain in his lower back and problems passing urine. Fellow detanees are asking Amos to resume eating becuse he is too sick to be on hunger strike, but he is refusing.
Linda Patrick Sesa, who wowed to ' die with the hunger' rather than be deported, has now been moved to the Health ' Care' in Colnbrook. A visitor was told by detention staff Linda Patrik 'did not want to see him' - in fact he was too weak to walk to the visit room.

detention centre management always lie

30.04.2006 21:05

The management in detention centres lie like that all the time. They play mind games with visitors and detainees to break down relationships. One family member was told repeatedly that her relative was refusing to see her when on hunger strike and at the same time they were refusing to carry him to the visiting room. On another occasion a visitor was told the person in detention had a legal visit and did not want a social visit and at the same time they were telling the legal caseworker that the detainees had a social visit and could not see her for a legal visit, not knowing that the visitor and legal caseworker were in touch with each other......

he doesn't know me but i know what happened after he spoke to reporters. i'd appreciate it if you do speak to him, maybe pass on my support and other people in manchester. thanks :)
i do stuff in manchester around asylum and detention and talking of lieing, TB is rife in detention centres and people are not getting medical care for active tb, which, officially is not happening. i heard yesterday of a guy who with active tb who had a hospital appointment. they took the wrong asylum seeker to the right hospital, then took the right asylum seeker to the wrong hospital. ffs. it would almost be funny with the grimmest sense of humour only TB needs to be treated urgently to have the best chance of success and the continued neglect and negilence for this guy has meant he is really depressed and unstable.

we have to keep the pressure on. the immigration system and the use of detention as immigration control needs to continue to be exposed for the shit it is.
