US Embassy Harbors Four Rapists, Refusal to Surrender the Criminals

by Manila Indymedia 18/1/06

MANILA-- "The United States has refused to turn over four Marines to the Philippines despite a warrant of arrest against them for alleged rape, citing a bilateral agreement that allows the US to keep custody of its troops in the country." said a local newspaper, Tuesday.(source)

The Olongapo Regional Trial Court issued a warrant of arrest to Staff Sergeant Chad Brian Carpentier and Lance Corporals Daniel Smith, Keith Silkwood and Dominic Duplantis, after a rape case charged by a 22-year-old Filipina who cried abuse by the above-mentioned US Marines inside the former Subic US Naval Base last year. In a text message from Zamboanga City, the mother of the 22-year-old complainant said the family was saddened to learn that the US Embassy had refused to relinquish custody of the four Marines.

"We hope the government will take serious action to serve the warrant of arrest," the mother said. "We are continuously hoping that this case will be resolved and won by the Filipino people." The accused rapists are staying in a one-story, air-conditioned building with bedrooms, a kitchen, and dining and living areas at the back of the US Embassy compound facing Manila Bay, said Zosimo Paredes, executive director of the Presidential Commision on VFA.

The Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA)- a joint military exercise who claims to be a bilateral contract between the Philippines and United States has exposed its bias policy that puts the US troops above the law in any foreign soil.

East London remembers war dead.
by Guido London IMC 3/2/06

On Wednesday 100 vigils were called in 100 different places across the country to remember those that have died in Iraq. The event coincided with the death of the 100th British Soldier. Below are some pics from Whitechapel.

Pic: Add 3 zeros for the number of Iraqi dead.

Around 30 people from the different communities that make up Tower Hamlets showed up to read the names of dead British soldiers and Iraqi civilians.

The present figures are:
Britain 100
USA Over 2,000
Iraqis Over 100,000

One point made by both the speakers at this event was that despite the media overkill on British servicemen no one is really bothering to count the Iraqi deaths. There are also the Iraqis who are dying from treatable conditions or poverty related illnesses as a direct result of the war.

At one point the local MP was mobbed by around a dozen Bengali 16 year olds. They did not seem particularly interested in Iraq but were desperate to know what Chantel from Big Brother is really like. Ho hum.....

"DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN" - MARCH FOR MIGRANTS IN LOS ANGELES

US via LA IMC

by Leslie Radford
San Diego 6/2/06

Dolores Huerta welcomes the Caravan for Migrants to Los Angeles, on its way to demanding humane immigration policies in Sacramento, Washington, and points in between.

Mother Cabrini, the patron saint of immigrants, was in the house tonight when 120 people gathered in front of La Placita Church on Olvera Street to commemorate the death of Guillermo Martínez Rodríguez and the 4000, or perhaps as many as 10,000, people who have died trying to circumvent the U.S. border wall since its construction in 1994. Prior to 1994, only a dozen or so people were killed annually by the heat or cold of the desert, or by the U.S. Border Patrol.

The Caravan for Migrants was organized by Enrique Morones of Border Angels and San Diego's gente unida to bring national focus to the deaths and to stop anti-immigrant legislation.

An Australian nightmare?by pr Melb IMC 3/2/06

Sometime in the late 1990's Australia fell asleep after too many raw prawns and too much cold beer. It was about to have the mother of all nightmares.

People often date the hideous Howard nightmare back to 2001 and the nasty little racist shits dirty lies he spoke then to win a desperate election. But what happened in 1998? ??We all voted for Kim Beazley over the lying little rat Howard. ??Kim Beazley got more votes that John W Howard. ??This Governor generalate really sucks doesn't it? The Greens with a reasonable mind based drug policy gets as many votes as the Nat's but NO SEATS let alone half the front bench and blessings from padre Watters. In 1998 came the scab attack. Wake in fright. To this day the jackass Vaille runs around spruiking for the ' Doha round'. Well he can have a round of barmaids kisses on me any day after what I saw on the docks that day.
